Are any Catters going to Sidmouth this year? I'm coming from a long way away to perform at it (Australia) so I'm hoping to make human contact with some of you folk!

Callie

Were there from Monday onwards, work commitments prevent us being there from the start, where are you performing? Have you been before? We saw one of your country men there last year, he sold out over 5000 watching him , no clues who it was. Hope you have as good a Sidmouth as he did. It is a brilliant venue and very friendly. You might come across me at a singaround or Ceildh we performed in the choir last year with Sandra Kerr and are looking forward to the same again.

regards Pete

Fantastic! I'm performing with the Solidarity Choir and Touchwood. It's our first UK venture and we're jumping out of our skins with excitement!

I noticed quite a few Aussies on last year's program, including the Sensitive New Age Cowpersons.

Let's keep in touch closer to the time. I look forward to meeting you!

Ta Gervase, the Polyester palace sounds...... yeah, well, it all depends on work and stuff.. I might be able to persuade my biker friend to ride down for a day or so..... he is curious about my "other lifestyle"... poor sap! Who knows though, the husband might even be going for a weekend..... depends if Saxons can get a team together.

Too right, I'll be there again - my in-laws live in the town so have been going for a good few years. I also go to the Anchor most lunchtimes, for main bar instrumental sessions, or joined in with the MBS (Middle Bar Singers) last year: otherwise when not attending concerts or workshops the Bedford bar is great for sheer variety. I bought a "catsuit" from one of the Arena stalls last year (T-shirt and trousers wi' cats painted on - the mind boggles!) so any other "catters" will recognise me instantly ( unless lots of other people bought the same!!) Liz: Paul & I will be there have booked a "cottage" for the week,if you fancy a little more comfort than the polyester palace, give us a ring. If you've lost the number ask Micca. Jude

Jude - you've booked a "cottage"! Somehow putting it in quotes reminds me of Joe Orton. Is Sidmouth really ready for that sort of thing?!

Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth?
From: JudeL

Gervase: the reason I put it in quotes was because I find it strange to refer to any place that has 4 or more bedrooms as a cottage - even though that is one of the two ways the booking agent refers to it - the other term they use is, the property, which to me sounds a bit pretentious.
Meanwhile what is it you are unsure if Sidmouth is ready for? I would have thought after getting Annie into that costume, and Tony's encounter with the riding whip - Sidmouth should be able cope with most things.

I suppose the question is what next - now we've done the explosion in a lingerie factory look - we need a new theme.
Got any suggestions?

None that can be posted here!
Tony O'Neill in the Barn at Towersey does a "dress-up" night, when Micca exposes his knees to the world under his kilt - but the thought of all those yellow tee-shirts under dinner jackets and over ball-gowns is maybe a bit too much.
The trouble with fancy dress is that, at Sidmouth, everyone seems to dress like a loon. Seal always looks as if he's off to find the source of the Nile, and there are far to many daft hats (my own included).
I suppose we could all perform in the buff, or our swimming scanties on the Thursday before hoofing off to sing in the sea. There again, think of all those impressionable children around...

Dress up like at Towersey wouldn't work without Second-hand Sue and her "alterations". As for the singing, sorry performing, in the buff, you've been associating too much with Dave Guest if you're talking about that - he keeps trying to persuade us to sing in the showers instead of the changing rooms at Grove.

Singing in the nude, you know it's very rude,

What a glorious feeling, it really is crude,

I'm laughing at what you have or have not

Just swinging and prancing in the nude.

I'll just wear my yellow sarong again, thank you!

Hey, Tattie, I think you have something there.....

I had something going last night on the lines of:

Bright yellow Tshirts,
Never cover the tum,
When stretched to their limits,
They don't reach your bum....
Even the sweatshirts,
They never quite go around
There's always a large bit
Of bare flesh to be found.....
And it's hairy, yes it's hairy, euuuuoooogh, it's hairy....

LTS - it's alright, I'm going to take my medication now.....

Actually, if anyone's going to Sidmouth and has nowhere to stay, a couple of average-sized MBS teeshirts and a pole can provide a tent ample enough for a family of six!

Hi All I shall certainly be there for the whole week and, for the first time, I'm not buying a ticket - preferring the fringe events! That means I can afford to stay in a hotel!

I look froward to seeing (among others I have forgotten - sorry!) Gervase, Chris and Gwynneth (with Oliver), Cliff (Wessex MM), Sid & Pam & Lin, Mike, Steve, Keith Beeby & Jenny, Mournful Bob (will he win the Gloom and Despondancy competition again?), Richard (When snow transforms ...), Rosie, Alison, Ann (with more newly composed songs?), Robin, Dave Earle & Elizabeth, Andy, Claire etc etc! But not Derek & Mary Droscher this year I gather.

"Swing low sweet Chariot ... !"

I'm sure we'll be doing some things in the day as well. Please say 'hello' if you see us.

Blimey, Allan; I'm impressed you can remember so many names! My brain's befuddled enough at the best of times, so remembring my own is achievement enough.
On another tack, I don't know if it was something in the ale at Chippenham, but my throat's been rougher than a badger's arse all week - so much so that I massacred two songs at Maidenhead last night and didn't do much better at Sharp's on Tuesday. Maybe it was trying to keep up with the Wilsons wot done it!

Hi Gervase

Yes, the beer was a bit iffy at Chippenham (and expensive at the Angel!) - that is after the first seven pints or so! Happily my voice has been ok since then (I had to drive from Chippenham so my intake was limited!)

So I could sing "Ale ,Ale, Glorious Ale", "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" and others tonight at a morris do - and thought of Sidmouth!

"In South Australia I was born ... !"

Wassail! Alan PS Please forgive us men Judy, we are only human!

I'm not going, but here's a few lines to go with your ditties-should be something else!

If you're singing in the rain
Without your clothes, it is a pain
There's drizzle and there's showers too
That try to freeze you through and through
Now drizzle on your skin is nice
But worst of all is lumps of ice
The hailstones that are quite thick
and hit you hard upon your (little thing that rhymes with stick)
They make it hurt, they make it shrivel
but is grows again when there is drizzle !

I used to go many years ago, it was always geat fun. Now a days, I can't get to the things I'd like to and as we'll be in Holland cycling, it's a bit far to go

Cheers

Eric
