Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: Angie Date: 09 Jul 01 - 10:52 AM i'll hopefull get down on wed.and/or thurs. (i only live a few miles away)the demon work demands most of my precious drinking time though.as a new member, it would be great to see some (if not all)of you at sidmouth, so if you are approached by a small dark haired scottish female chances are it'll be me. |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: Louisa Date: 09 Jul 01 - 12:25 PM Yep, I will be there, stewarding, and playing my fiddle around the place as per usual. Will probably be in New Tavern, Bedford and Anchor quite a bit. Camping at the main site. See some of you in the Mexican tent for a few tunes and a plate of quesadillas I hope. I usually steward as a Mobile Information Person (if you've been before, one of those bored-looking and distinctly stationary people standing next to an 'A' board trying to flog programmes or dispense information) but thank goodness I'm doing something different this year. However I would just like to say please be nice to the Mobile Information People! Go and talk to them as it can get very lonely standing around on your own. see you there Louisa |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: English Jon Date: 09 Jul 01 - 12:32 PM Vectis, I'm mid 20's, a bit overweight and have a shaved head. I'll probably have a slack handfull of instruments kicking around, and keep bursting into song at inopportune moments. And by the end of a fortnight of camping, I will probably stink to high heaven and frighten old ladies. EJ |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: vectis Date: 09 Jul 01 - 07:13 PM See ya there Jon. I can be spotted modelling a collection of beer towels instead of a jacket. |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 09 Jul 01 - 07:21 PM Don't forget your Mudcat T-shirts.
I should be in the Arts Centre bar sometime most days. And the Rugby Club bar some evenings. |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: Gervase Date: 10 Jul 01 - 05:39 AM But John, at the end of the week, everyone stinks, so we don't notice it - not until we stand next to some non-folkie at the station and they slink off, quietly retching! |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: JudeL Date: 13 Jul 01 - 01:26 PM Speak for yourself Gervase I intend to find time to luxuriate in that ultimate piece of decadence a bath! A weekend of roughing it is one thing but a week of primative (and smelly) campsite facilities is a bit much. This year we've decided not to bother even getting tickets as we use them so little anyway that it just aint worth it! (not at them prices). The few concerts we want to see we can pay on the door. The only downer is that rules out the LNE's but we rarely make it up there anyway. Jude |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: Roger in Sheffield Date: 29 Jul 01 - 04:42 AM I am going for the first time So any suggestions where to go and where not to go would be very welcome My friend has got us tickets but I am not sure what that gets us in to? Anyway I hope to see some of you there Sam my friend Louise is bringing her Accordian any chance you could listen to her play it while I sneak off to the pub? Roger |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 29 Jul 01 - 07:48 AM , I managed to outsing the Wilsons at the last Saffron Walden festival......
Note that - the last... |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: BanjoRay Date: 29 Jul 01 - 10:01 AM I'm going this year. I'll be spending most of my time either jamming Old Time on the promenade or ditto in the right hand bar at the Bedford Arms. I've bought a season ticket, so I'll have to go to a few things to try and make it worth it - Incredible String Band, Lonnie Donegan for starters. I'll miss the lst night, as I'll be off to the Sacrewell Farm Old Time camping week near Peterborough, which will be a LOT cheaper and at least as much fun. Cheers |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 29 Jul 01 - 11:04 AM McGrath - the fact that I outsang the Wilsons (and have also done the same to Ian Bruce at the Middle Bar) has nothing to do with the fact that it was the last Saffron Walden.... that was politics, personal problems and a dispute over the viability of a change of dates. I'm trying to find a way of depositing child for a sleepover, whilst I try to find a place to doss...... |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 29 Jul 01 - 05:10 PM Reminds me of the story of the magician's parrot on the Titanic.
If anybody feels like trying to set up a Mudcatters gathering, they could stick something in the Newsletter, or on the notice board next to the box office. |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: GeorgeH Date: 30 Jul 01 - 06:32 AM The best sessions (IMO) are in the Radway . . though others will disagre. Also, it can be well worth the treck out to "The Volunteer" (but we always seem to get there just as things are winding down . . ) Ralpie is supposed to be in the Radway on Wed. lunchtime. Lonnie Donnegan is the one place we're unlikely to be! I guess we'll try to get to a couple of our daughter's "concert" spots, plus the "Shooting Roots" showcase at the end of the week ('scuse the Proud Parent bit!) G. |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 30 Jul 01 - 07:50 AM The Swan used to have a good fringe session going, but it seems to have died away the last few years. It's conveniently situated also. |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: JudeL Date: 30 Jul 01 - 11:49 AM Roger: The right hand bar of the Anchor will have a musicians session lunchtime for your friend while you can go to the left where Anchor Middle Bar Singers gather to drink lots of Exmoor Gold and Fox. ............................ oh and to sing of course. Jude |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 30 Jul 01 - 11:40 PM Bugger. The bratling sitter is unable to function so we won't be there... boo hoo hooo... Have a good one, and Gervase - don't forget that spare bog roll in it's usual place!!! LTS |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: Ralphie Date: 31 Jul 01 - 11:01 AM Good News Have just heard that the nice people of Sid Fest have given a pair of freebies to Nic Jones and his son Joe for the week. The first time that Nic has been to Sid for over 20 years. So, if you bump into him walking around, say hello, and make him welcome. He won't be performing, just having a holiday Well done Messrs Heap and Bearman. See you all down there next Tuesday Ralphie |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: Hawker Date: 31 Jul 01 - 07:09 PM As a new member of the Cornwall Songwriters, I was asked to stand in for another member at The Cry Of Tin at Sidmouth on Saturday, unfortunately, my band had a prior booking and I had to hand my place over to our other new member, Ann Phillips, so good Luck, Ann, break a leg! I have to be there on Sunday evening as I am being presented with my NVQ Level 4 in 'Delivering Artform Development Programmes' certificate by Shirley Collins, the new Patron of Folk South West, at the Fortfield Hotel, before and after this event, me and my man will be hoping to join a singaround somewhere, Middle Bar sounds good..... look out for me, I'll be wearing a smile! Lucy |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: Gervase Date: 01 Aug 01 - 04:43 AM And nothing else? Should make it easy to spot you! I'll be wearing hair like a bog-brush and an expression like a stunned mullet, if previous years are anything to go by. |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: Deni Date: 02 Aug 01 - 01:55 AM Hi Hawker, I will know you, if I can't recognise anyone else. The Middle Bar at the Anchor, perhaps Gervase or Tattie Bogle know our old mate Keith Beeby. (More news of him on the Hyde Folk Club's NEW site. http://beehive.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/hydefolk Seeing as he's not online, at least I can plug him! (He knows me as Den, from Mad Rush) He's got a superb album of his own songs out. (Hope it wasn't a secret Keith). For my benefit, could you say loudly every hour, 'Any mudcatters here?' Then we can see what everyone looks like before the sun goes in again. I'm off to find a snap at the picture gallery of all the aforementioned, persons. Love Deni the duck

Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? I can't give you a lift back though unless you are going to Broadstairs (possibly via Gosport) See you there! EJ (very excited) |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: Deni Date: 03 Aug 01 - 07:47 AM Are you playing, Jon? it seems to us on Mudcat that we were in at the start....and are watching you with interest...to see what happens... Deni |
Subject: RE: Catters going to Sidmouth? From: English Jon Date: 03 Aug 01 - 08:33 AM Not playing officially at Sidmouth (although if anyone hangs around long enough I'll probably burst forth with a couple of "everyone gets drowned" songs) - playing absolutely sodding everywhere at Broadstairs though. Still need confirmation of a gig in Gosport on the 11th. Look out for Jon Loomes, Whorticulture and SofiBacugo! Thanks for taking an interest though Deni! Cheers. Jon |
