Subject: RE: BS: paltalk qurstion From: nutty Date: 20 Mar 01 - 09:33 AM Personally I find very long ballads difficult to listen to ...... I lose concentration and usually finish up playing patience or some similar game otherwise I'm happy with most things PS. Short ballads are OK , I can usually manage the first eight verses but drift off after that |

Subject: RE: BS: paltalk qurstion From: Morticia Date: 20 Mar 01 - 09:37 AM I agree with Nutty, although the sound quality is good on PT it doesn't really withstand the 108 verse tragi-epic type songs, but then I've been known to fall asleep in folk clubs to some of those....otherwise the world is the mollusc of your choice as far as I'm concerned. |

Subject: RE: BS: paltalk qurstion From: Noreen Date: 20 Mar 01 - 10:00 AM Yes, I try to limit Willy O' Winsbury to the basic 20 verses... *BG* Seriously, I enjoy everything- I love hearing the variety of music played by mudcatters. Play/sing whatever you're comfortable with. Paltalk sessions are all different, depending on who is there at a particular time, and I particularly enjoy it when one song or topic of chat inspires someone to sing a related song- just like a musical conversation. Look forward to hearing you sometime, Mike. Noreen |

Subject: RE: BS: paltalk qurstion From: mkebenn Date: 20 Mar 01 - 10:03 AM LOL, ok, no Barbara Allen with all verses known to man, bet there will be some ya don't expect, though, I've been on a mission to see that certain songs don't get forgotten, not Child ballads, of course. Look forward to sharing. Mike |

Subject: RE: BS: paltalk qurstion From: Noreen Date: 20 Mar 01 - 10:58 AM TishA: all is explained in this section of the FAQ (See the coloured thread at the top of the list of threads on the Forum page). Come back here and ask if you have any problems. I don't know if it's possible to record directly. Noreen |

Subject: RE: BS: paltalk qurstion From: dwditty Date: 20 Mar 01 - 11:46 AM Mike, When I am in the mudcat room(s), I try to stick mostly to blues or folk since that is what the site refers to. There are several other live rooms I go to as well. One changes names often depending on who is running it, but you will recognize it as usually having a large group - 20-40+. This one has more acoustic rock than folk (Beatles, James Taylor, Neil Young, etc) as well as some really great players - plus they are reasonably tolerant of my ramblings (not too long though). I also pop into "West Virginia & Ohio" for some country, "The Jazz & Ribs cafe" for blues etc. I enjoy hitting different rooms, but try to stick to one for the night to contribute both as a singer and a listener. So jump in and have fun. Be prepared, though. It can be addicting. I thought I spent alot of time on Paltalk until last weekend when I was with a group from 8:30 to 1:00. I checked back at 5:30 am and many were still there. Went to work and checked back about 4:00 pm and they were still going strong. dw |

Subject: RE: BS: paltalk qurstion From: Jon Freeman Date: 20 Mar 01 - 11:09 PM Following on from what dwditty said, look around the rooms. I'm in "Singers and Musicians (No Karaoke please) now and have been enjoying it for about an hour. The stuff I do doesn't really fit this room but there are some fantastic singers and players there - great listening for me. Jon |
