Subject: The Real Thing From: GUEST Date: 28 Mar 01 - 01:36 PM Does any body have the lyrics for a song by Chip Taylor called "The Real Thing". Its a country thing from the 70's I think; with the chorus ending: Don't want you under my roof with your 86 proof, watered down till it tastes like tea. You want to pull my string, make it the real thing for me. Any help appreciated. Marshman |

(I Want) The Real Thing
Make it loud and they'll make you proud of the songs they sing
And I remember old Elvis when he forgot to remember to forget Lyrics found here: Click Brief Chip Taylor info found here: Click And this, found here: Click "Chip Taylor is a renowned singer/songwriter who penned hits for everyone from the Troggs and Jimi Hendrix ("Wild Thing") to Janis Joplin ("Try Just A Little Bit Harder"), through numerous cuts by country and R&B artists. The London Bootleg Sessions (Train Wreck Records) is a two-CD set, the first of which was recorded with an electric band in London, and the second, in an acoustic format in New York. The 25 cuts, which are mostly in the outlaw-country mode, show why Taylor is a revered cult figure. On the first disc, the evocative "Annie On Your Mind," with harmonies from Lucinda Williams, is a standout as is the coarser, more rock-based "Holy Shit," which appears to have an autobiographical slant. Williams also duets with Taylor on "The Ghost Of Phil Sinclair" on the NY sessions. The second disc shows a more rugged and rural storytelling Taylor. He shows his immense lyrical and melodic sensibilities in the Dylan-ish "I Ain't Leaving Without You" and the jagged country of "Lefty Frizzel." All in all, this is one hell of an album by a master songwriter. If you like great songwriters, this disc should prove interesting. If you like John Prine, Townes Van Zandt or Guy Clark, this album is a must. Also adding musical support are Anton Figg and Tammy Rodgers. (110 Green St., Suite 504, NY, NY 10012, 212-966-7443)" Cheers! Lin
