Can anyone give me a coherent set of lyrics to this Bogtrotters song? I have it on a Biograph Record but can't make them out. Thanks harpgirl

Harpgirl I will post Cold Icey Floor by the Bogtrotters later today. I didn't have any problem decyphering them when my ears were younger and I wrote them out then. That Biograph record is my all-time favorite old-time recording...Cold Icey Floor, Who Broke the Lock, Sugar Hill etc. Larry

Thanks, Larry. It is a great record. I've worn it out myself. Could you post their "Who broke the Lock" version to the thread by the same name? (And any others on the album you might be inspired to do!) My midwestern ears have trouble with this record. harpgrrrl

Listening to Jon Freeman play banjo on Paltalk the other night was such pleasure. Perhaps when I see the FOTMC banjo champ from 1999 next week he will teach me a lick or two! harpgirl

This is one of my personal favorite albums. I particularly love "Cold Icy Floor," but I'm puzzled by the word "donny." That's as far as I know I male name, but that doesn't work here: "My donny went to Mobile and I told her not to go" wouldn't make sense. What I hear is "doney" with a long 'O.' Someone (sorry, I can't remember who) told me that's a word for "sweetheart," losely derived from the Spanish "dueña." Has anyone else heard this explanation?

Also, I hear "Noble" rather than "Mobile." Anyone else?

I haven't heard the recording. If anybody can find a link to YouTube recording, please post it. The word "doney" makes sense to me, but it surprises me that Harpgirl would miss that word, if that's what it is. If I recall correctly, Harpy once belonged to a group called the Doney Girls. I'm getting old, so my recollection may be incorrect.
