Subject: The Cruel War From: Vond 0017@aol.com Date: 20 Nov 97 - 11:26 AM Thank you to everyone responsible for this site. I searched for this song in the data base and was very surprised not to find it. My high school sweetheart and her brother were avid folk preformers at a local coffee house (1967). This song her and I sang at school in a talent contest. She would have won had it not been for my lack of ability in vocals. The words as I remember The Cruel war is raging and Jonny has to fight I want to be with him from morning till night I want to be with him it greves my heart so Won't you let me go with you No my love no Tomarrow is Sunday and Monday is the day That your Capitan will call you and you must obey Yoour Capitan will call you it greves my heart so Won't you let me go with you No my love no I'll tie back my hair Men's clouthing I'll put on I'll pass as your comrad as we march along I'll pass as your commrad it greves my heart so Won't you let me go with you No my love no Jonny Oh Jonny I feel you are unkind I love you for better than all of man kind I love you for better than words can ere express Won't you let me go with you Yes my love Yes ------------------------------------------------- I apologise for the spelling and I am sure it is only close. Joan Biez may have done it originally. Thank's Gary Curren |
