Am going up to Manchester Friday night for the rally on Saturday. Are there any sessions or singarounds to go to or any catters going to be about who might sharing a pint or two.
Jude

Will have mudcat access early on Friday - just long enough to check threads but will be leaving at about 11ish to get up there.
The rally is part of the living wage campaign. Although we now have a minimum wage in this country, it is set so low , especially for people under 21 that even working full time it is not enough to live on. Thousands of people will be decending on Manchester for a march through the streets on Saturday.
There is a concert Sat evening mostly aimed at younger people with bands such as Catatonia and Toploader.
I'm going up with half a dozen others in a minibus - but don't have a lot in common with the others, so thought it might be a good opportunity to meet some catters in the flesh rather than cyber hugs.

The Harringtom Arms at Gawsworth near Congleton has a good music session on Fri nights. Where are you staying? John

Sorry John, not to reply before, things went a bit haywire Friday, first my system went down. My ever so helpful son had done something trying to network his in with mine with the result that both computers sulked . I know , his explanation was much longer and more technical, but I still think they were sulking. Anyway since we were supposed to be leaving from the office in hertford at midday I didn't have time to wait for him to persuade it to work so I had the bright idea of logging on at the office - It was only when I tried this that I discovered that the blue meanies had struck again. Apparently they have some sort of protocol set up like parental control which prevents anyone accessing sites that may "be innapropriate to a work setting" and this they deem to include discussion fora. So I couldn't read your message til I got back. Perhaps it's just as well as one of the group going up was delayed (a child protection case) and we then hit traffic and so didn't get to Manchester until about 9.30. Which would have been too late for most places. We stayed in this pub on Swan St. I can honestly say I've never stayed anywhere quite like it before. Oh well mark one up to experience. Sorry to have missed you maybe another time and thanks for trying.

Sounds like you had an interesting weekend, Jude. Did the rally go well? Weather wasn't ideal, but then, it was Manchester, in April...!

Another time, perhaps.

Several thousand soggy protesters carrying banners and waving flags gathered in a muddy park and then marched through the streets for about four miles, escorted by the police. All very well behaved, I was going to say peaceful, but what with the whistles and the chanting, peaceful isn't quite the word. Hopefully , in this election year it will help raise awareness of the issue of low pay and maybe just maybe do some good. But boy did my shoulders ache after carrying that banner after a couple of miles it gets very heavy. And I must say that I can think of better things to do than listen to some guy singing umpteen verses of barnacle Bill the sailor up the M1

I'd have thought that Oldham Tinkers song about Peterloo would have been more appropriate.

Noreen - Yes I am absolutly shattered. The bad news is that I have to get up in the morning to get my youngest to school , the good news is that as I'm not working tomorrow if I still feel tired I may go back to bed. Fionn - don't recall the song but almost anything would have been better than the apparently never ending adventures of barnacle bill.
