Here is some information that is already available here.  Better, as a rule, to provide links rather than copying stuff that's already in the DT.  I know you meant well, Charley, but in the long term it just makes it harder for other people to sort through duplicated information in order to help next time this question is asked; which it will be.

In the DT:

I'LL TELL MY MA  apparantly from a Rankin Family record.
I'LL TELL ME MA  Apparantly from a Jacqui and Bridie record.
THE WIND, THE WIND  A number of versions, mostly from Scotland.  Properly annotated!!

In the Forum:

Charley-...and before the Rankin Family and the Clancy Brothers, it was recorded by David Hammond, of Belfast, on his album, "Singers' House." Early sixties I think.

Sounds like I'll Tell Me Ma. (Click for lyrics and midi of the tune.) Enjoy!

Please note that it's best to put a bit of the lyrics in the title if you don't know the name of the song.

The database is searchable, and it may help someone else find information. Not to mention that folks tend to use these threads for all sorts of requests once their established, and everything gets muddled.

Here's your song from the Mudcat Digital Archives:

I'LL TELL MY MA

cho: I'll tell my ma when I go home
The boys won't leave the girls alone
They pulled my hair and they stole my comb
But that's alright 'til I go home.

She is handsome she is pretty
She is the belle of Belfast City
She is courting 1, 2, 3,
Please won't you tell me who is She?

Here she comes as white as snow
Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes
Oh Johnny Murray he says she'll die
If she doesn't get the fellow with the roving eye.

Let the wind and rain and the hail blow high
And the snow come tumbling from the sky
She's as nice as apple pie
She'll get her own boy by and by.

When she gets a lad of her own
She won't tell her ma 'til she comes home
Let the boys stay as they will
For it's Albert Mooney she loves still.

The Rankin Family performed this on ""A Prairie Home Companion."
It's on their CD "North Country". Also recorded by the Clancy Brothers.
