Subject: Pay The Reckoning - Check It Out! From: Aidan Crossey Date: 18 Jun 01 - 07:59 AM Pay The Reckoning is a relatively new website, aimed at afficionados of traditional Irish music. The heart of the site is a collection of tunes by Aidan Crossey (yours truly). Written over the past few years, the reels, hornpipes, jigs, etc. draw their inspiration - in the main - from a childhood spent in County Armagh, by the shores of Lough Neagh. The tunes have been written on mandolin, but transfer well to other instruments. The tunes are available in abc, sheet music, tenor banjo/mandolin tablature and as MIDI files. Visit Aidan Crossey's Original Tunes. The site also contains Rants and Raves and Reviews. I'd really like to use the Reviews section to give some publicity to outfits who are independently producing and distributing their own work. (My review of Haste to the Wedding's CD "Take to the Floor" will give you an indication of the sort of approach I take. I'd like to think that I'm honest and supportive ...) I have given address details on the site's home page and wil shortly include them on the Reviews page. I'd be delighted to include links to fellow mudcatters' own web pages in my Links Section - the site contains a number of e-mail links which you can use to mail these to me. Any feedback will be much appreciated. Go raibh mile maith agaibh! |

Subject: RE: Pay The Reckoning - Check It Out! From: katlaughing Date: 19 Jun 01 - 01:05 AM HeyaAidan, nice site and tunes! I will look it over more thoroughly, tomorrow, but for now, I really enjoyed "Wee Lough" and reading about your maternal grandfather. You've certainly got the gift of expression! Welcome to the Mudcat and thanks for the links. It was nice of you to ask in your other thread and I am pleased you took 'Catters at their word and posted your site. I am looking forward to hearing more midis and seeing you around here more. All the best, kat |

Subject: RE: Pay The Reckoning - Check It Out! From: Aidan Crossey Date: 19 Jun 01 - 04:24 AM Kat ... Thanks for the comments. I was going to let this thread die a death ... self-publicity is a fine line! Anyhow, glad you liked The Wee Lough. A lot of people who visit my site - and take the time to comment - seem to like it. The site has had quite a few more hits since I posted yesterday's message. It's a little daunting, knowing that people will be visiting who KNOW about my line of music. Although folk and trad musicians are notoriously supportive, there does come a point where there's nowhere to hide, so there's always a slight nervousness about exposing the Pay The Reckoning site to yet another audience! Many thanks again!! |

Subject: RE: Pay The Reckoning - Check It Out! From: katlaughing Date: 19 Jun 01 - 09:53 AM Be careful about wishing to let threads die around here, Aidan....we once had the Thread That Would Not Die that went on for over 300 postings! **BG** I think you'll find us generally a supportive lot; we're happy to see anyone being out there and keeping the traditions alive, for the most part. So, then, here's another refresh for ya! Give a listen folks! Good stuff! kat

Subject: RE: Pay The Reckoning - Check It Out! From: Áine Date: 19 Jun 01 - 01:33 PM Dia duit, a dherrymacash, I'd already found your site, and I highly recommend it to all 'Catters interested in Irish traditional music. I've just recently picked up the mandolin, so I'm very excited by your tunes and tabs. I hope you don't mind; but, I've taken the liberty of putting a link to your site on one of my own pages -- Naisc Ceoil -- not once, but twice. Once under "Fuaimeanna Ar Líne" and again under "Amhránaithe/Ceoltóirí - Mo Chairde Féin" (if you're a Mudcatter, then you're an instant friend!). And if you'd like to include a link to my page(s) on Pay The Reckoning, feel free. Ádh mór ort agus do shuiomh féin, Áine |
