Subject: LYR - CHRDS REQUEST: Peggy Gordon From: Peter T. Date: 18 Jun 01 - 01:49 PM Heard Eileen McGann sing this trad ballad beautifully (no surprise) at black walnut's House Concert on Saturday. It is on an album of hers I don't have -- also a Borealis giveaway album I do have, but no info. Neither lyrics nor chords seem to be in the DT. Can anyone help? She played it in DADGAD, and it sounded as if it was all D, G, and A. yours, Peter T. |
Subject: Lyr Add: PEGGY GORDON From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 18 Jun 01 - 02:28 PM Peter it is in the DT. The version I sing is slightly different but here is the DT one. Yours, Aye. Dave PEGGY GORDON O Peggy Gordon, You are my darling Come sit you down upon my knee And tell to me the very reason Why I am slighted so by thee I am so deep in love that I can't deny it My heart lies smothered in my breast But it's not for you to let the whole world know it A troubled mind can find no rest I leaned myself on a cask of brandy It was my fancy, I do declare For when I'm drinking, I'm always thinking Wishing Peggy Gordon was there I wished I was in a lonesome valley Where womankind cannot be found And the pretty little birds do change their voices And every moment a different sound I wish I was away in Ingo Far away across the briny sea Sailing over deepest waters Where love nor care never trouble me ________ Collected in Nova Scotia by Helen Creighton sung by Tony Saletan and by Robin & Barry Dransfield printed in Sing Out @love filename[ PEGGORDN Tune file : PEGGORDN CLICK TO PLAY S OF |

Subject: RE: LYR - CHRDS REQUEST: Peggy Gordon From: black walnut Date: 20 Jun 01 - 09:24 AM After the concert Saturday night, Eileen and I were sitting on the couch eating leftovers, and between bites, I sang her 'Sweet Maggie Gordon' which I learned from the Mudcat. She'd never heard that version of Peggy Gordon before. Go ahead...play it with guitar, Peter. DADGAD is such a cool tuning. ~b.w.
