Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hurry Sundown From: Mrrzy Date: 05 Dec 11 - 12:03 PM Found the album, which is called Hurry Sundown. But what IS the song about? Who lies in Boot Hill - if it's the dead gypsy woman, why was she buried there, I thought it was for men who "died with their boots on" (ie by gun violence). I also thought it was metaphorical, but apparently it's in, and maybe this is why, Tombstone Arizona. Cowboy song fanciers care to explain? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hurry Sundown From: Mrrzy Date: 16 Jul 01 - 04:21 PM Also, the flavor of my recollection is akin to Charlie Daniels Band, who is this Thomasson? And it was fire in his eyes, not fire in the sky, but I love the way my visuals stayed while all other info about this song vanished... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hurry Sundown From: Mrrzy Date: 16 Jul 01 - 01:57 PM And upon rereading - we don't know how she died, but it wasn't the outlaw who killed her, is that right? He's coming to avenge her, and they are waiting for the dust that will signal his horse's arrival? (Note that I heard that line as Waiting for the GHOST of an outlaw which doesn't really make any less sense, the way the song is going...) Thanks again, all. |

Subject: Lyr Add: HURRY SUNDOWN (H. Thomasson) From: Sorcha Date: 15 Jul 01 - 11:34 AM That did it, Mrrz!! HURRY SUNDOWN (H. Thomasson) Gypsy's dance around the campfire, Shook their tambourines. They were waiting for the dust of an outlaw, Sundown was his name. As the midnight hour grew closer, and the sky begins to fall You can see their shadow by the light of the moon They had heard the gypsies call She had hair as black as darkness, eyes of emerald green And her voice was soft and tender, oooh she could sing She will sing no more, or dance again or shake a tambourine They had taken her away, she was dead and gone, hear the gypsies sing Ooh, ooh, Hurry Sundown Ooh, ooh, Hurry Sundown Ooh, ooh, Hurry Sundown Ooh, ooh, Hurry Sundown Ooh, ooh, Hurry Sundown Ooh, ooh, Hurry Sundown Silver devils in his holsters, stars strapped to his heels There was fire in his eyes; they say that he was dressed to kill He had hands as fast as lightning, a heart as cold as steel He had come for the one that took her life, lying in Boothill Gypsy's dance around the campfire, Shook their tambourines. They were waiting for the dust of an outlaw, Sundown was his name. As the midnight hour grew closer, and the sky begins to fall You can see their shadow by the light of the moon They had heard the gypsies call Ooh, ooh, Hurry Sundown Ooh, ooh, Hurry Sundown Ooh, ooh, Hurry Sundown |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hurry Sundown From: Mrrzy Date: 15 Jul 01 - 11:14 AM OK, at Fridays After 5 there were some gypsies, and suddenly the opening like sprang into my head: "Gypsies danced around the campfire, shook their tamborines..." but then the rest isn't there, yet... does that help? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hurry Sundown From: Mrrzy Date: 28 Jun 01 - 10:29 AM No, that's the one referred to in the Hurry Down Sundown thread, but thanks, Micca! I'm trying to think if I remember anything else. There might have been a tambourine... which is why I'm thinking gypsies... somehow I've gone off on the Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves, but it isn't that at all. It's a love story, I think. And I'm almost positive that Sundown is a horse. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hurry Sundown From: Matt_R Date: 27 Jun 01 - 04:24 PM Phew...I thought you meant McBride & The Ride's "Hurry Sundown". |
Subject: Hurry Sundown From: Mrrzy Date: 27 Jun 01 - 04:20 PM Not the one referred to in the threads about Hurry DOWN Sundown. This is about a gypsy woman, I think? I have a kind of emotional feel, but can't recall any lyrics at all other than Ooooh, hurry sundown, which I think was the name of a horse. ??? Help? I think the woman is in trouble and the man is saving her, but who knows, I have no brain today. There is blood in the sky in my "visual" if you want to call something that vague a visual. Also, who does it, thanks? |
