Hi Floks !

I am looking for lyrics from Loreena McKennitt, but there is none of her song in Mudcat database (or I mised them..)

Titles requested are :

Night ride across the Caucasus
Dante's paryer
The bonny Swans etc...

Isn't she considered as a "typical irish woman", so she does not appear in Mudcat, or is it again a matter of copyrights ?

Thanks a lot !

Jeremie.

You are probably using the wrong search engine.  The best of several available on this site is the "Digitrad and Forum Search", which you will find on the main Forum page.  McKennitt is a popular performer who has been discussed here quite a lot, and lyrics for a number of songs she has recorded have been posted in the Forum, though likely enough few if any have so far made it into the Digital Tradition database.  For more about how the DT and Mudcat work, see the FAQ thread at the top of the threads list on the main Forum page.

Buy her CDs! Lyrics to all her songs are included in the CD booklet -- along with some of the most interesting liner notes I've ever read.

The lyrics for A Night Ride Across the Caucasus and Dante's Prayer are at her site on the Book of Secrets CD.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "typical Irishwoman", maybe perhaps that she sings some "traditional songs", but Loreena McKennit is Canadian.

"The Bonny Swans" is a variant on the "Two Sisters" - if you search on that you will get tons of discussion and lyrics.

Hi, Jeremie - the others have given good information. Loreena McKennitt sings mostly traditional songs, but she adds her own variations. We have many of those same songs in our Digital Tradition Folk Song Database, but usually not her specific version. We emphasize the songs here, not the performer. We prefer the historic version of a song, rather than a version modified by a modern performer.
Loreena McKennitt does a very good job of supplying lyrics for her recordings. This is a good thing, because her diction leaves something to be desired [grin] (I'll admit her singing sounds beautiful). She has her own record label, Quinlan Road, and you can find her website at http://www.quinlanroad.com (click). I think she has lyrics for all her recordings at the Website - Click here for lyrics. I hope that answers your question.

In a collection called "The Journey Begins", there is a bonus cd with a spanish language version of Dante's Prayer on it. Does anyone know where to find the spanish lyrics to this?
