From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 31 Jan 02 - 11:08 PM I am igmoring a lot of threads right now, especially the stupid ones stated by Guest who cant remember his name. Guest-I am not a vioelent person but if I ever find out were you are I will get a big stickj and smash your computer to pieces, so stop trying to make trouble.john |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Wyrd Sister Date: 28 Sep 01 - 03:37 PM I'm ignoring quite a lot of threads. Only I'm not going to tell you which ones. Does this mean I'm ignoring them properly? Or are they not the proper threafds to ignore? |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Nemesis Date: 27 Sep 01 - 07:24 PM Hey! This is great! Actively ignoring "Globalisation is so yesterday" appears to have worked - it's gorn... (Oh, I know it was really boring and wasn't going to last way:) Gosh, I feel quite flushed now.. :) Hille x |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Nemesis Date: 26 Sep 01 - 07:19 PM I have a recipe for squirrel pie somewhere - rook can be substituted.

Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 25 Sep 01 - 08:01 PM I like animals but I like meat even more!
Road kill. That's your answer. Eat adventurously. Scrape and fry. Recycling. |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 25 Sep 01 - 06:57 PM Hi Cobble, I only said I used to be a vegetarian, I like animals but I like meat even more! That photo you have could be a collectors item, it looks like I had the last meal served at The Jug. (I heard that the new landlord is not going to serve food). |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Cobble Date: 25 Sep 01 - 04:13 PM You'll learn John in Hull. As for Veggie I have got a superb picture of you eating a large piece of cow pie in the Jug.

Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 25 Sep 01 - 03:50 PM I have stopped ignoring that thread now (Stupidly I have just responded to a troll/flame) Oh well. I suppose I will learn to ignore them eventually! |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: John Routledge Date: 25 Sep 01 - 02:36 PM Managed to ignore this till now. Well said McGrath. Good advice for all!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 25 Sep 01 - 02:33 PM If the Guest has not got a name, I ignore them. How can you be freinds with somebody who wont tell you their name? I think they are a bit weird and probably just trying to make trouble. |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 25 Sep 01 - 02:29 PM Actively ignoring them in my case is, I open it up, and if it's not a music thread, and it's a GUEST whom I don't know from previous threads to be OK, I close it right down without even reading it.
Saves a lot of hassle, because there are some cunning buggers around playing games with multiple posts designed to stir things up for the sake of it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Nemesis Date: 25 Sep 01 - 02:23 PM Well, I'm actively getting so fed up with some of the obsessive threads - like "Globalisation is so yesterday" and some posters just wanting to hear the sounds of their own opinions without any interest in any discussion that I have resorted to crude monsyllabic replies (e.g.: "Bog Off") and then ignoring them. Which (sigh) probably isn't the point of active ignoration (sic) - but, heck, I'm fed up being lady-like and reasonable.

Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 25 Sep 01 - 02:14 PM I am ignoring another thread now, started by sombody trying to make trouble, it is called "A folk & blues forum?" |

Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 07 Sep 01 - 01:01 PM JohnB- I think that's the only one I'm ignoring right now but watch this space! I am not gay or racist but I used to be vegetarian. :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: GUEST,JohnB Date: 07 Sep 01 - 12:56 PM Thanks John in Hull, I missed the "Morris dancers are all gay & racist" thread , I did however just post to the "Vegetarians are prats" thread. Do you have any more that I might not like ? ;) JohnB A Morris Dancer, not gay for sure, not knowingly racist also a Vegetarian. |

Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: GUEST,Genie Date: 06 Sep 01 - 10:42 PM Are catters expected to open or post to every thread? How would anyone ever "get out more"? Genie |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Date: 06 Sep 01 - 10:42 PM I had been ignoring the England 0 Albania 5 thread but AliUK tweaked my curiosity so I peeked. All Greek to me. Is it something to do with cricket? Now passively ignoring two threads. |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: khandu Date: 06 Sep 01 - 09:51 PM I can do this because I am more like I am now than I was when I was like what I was like before I came to be like I am now. khandu |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: AliUK Date: 06 Sep 01 - 09:23 PM I am not actually posting to this thread, I am actively ignoring it. In reality I am posting to the England 0 Albania 5 thread and this is bleeding over into this thread. |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: DougR Date: 06 Sep 01 - 09:19 PM Gee, Hille, you sure know how to hurt a guy! I'll bet that "flasher" is still struggling with that zipper! DougR |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: GUEST,Hille Date: 06 Sep 01 - 07:17 PM John in Hull. Oops, sorry I posted to that thread without thinking. I agree with you, though I think ignoring is the best policy - like the Satanic Verses issue one can't condemn truly without having read it. However, if it is distasteful then just ignore it! However, laughter is another good policy - I burst out laughing at a flasher a while ago and he hobbled off quickly into the night, struggling with his zipper..and that "Eminem Rules" thread, whilst not offensive in the racist, etc sense was a collective masterpiece of dealing with "nonsense". Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: DougR Date: 06 Sep 01 - 06:53 PM I don't believe if one does not post to a thread that calls for an opinion about a controversial subject, that one can assume he or she favors one side or the other. Many of these threads are started only to create devisevness in the Mudcat community, and the poster doesn't care one way or the other how individual members come down on the subject. I believe the best way to respond to those threads is not to respond and hope they go away. They rarely do, though, because people can't resist taking the bait. I'm guilty of doing that myself from time to time. DougR |

Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 06 Sep 01 - 06:24 PM I am currently ignoring the "Morris dancers are all gay & racist" thread, just thought I'd let you know! |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Bill D Date: 06 Sep 01 - 06:15 PM all very existential..Sartré would be proud of this thread. Reminds me of an old sign I saw once:
"Ignore This Sign"

Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: GUEST,Russ Date: 06 Sep 01 - 04:21 PM JohnB, I interpret "actively ignoring" a thread as not posting on that thread but posting on a different thread and referring to the thread you are not posting to in the thread you are posting to. I like it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Troll Date: 06 Sep 01 - 04:17 PM I am actively ignoring this thread. That tells you all you need to know. troll |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Mr Red Date: 06 Sep 01 - 03:59 PM Oh! Can I get on my soapbox here and not give Credence to the Clearwater Revivalists? Yea, I suffer the same dichotomy or do I mean indecision? (can't decide on that one). To get angry and post and in effect support or to ignore and by disposing, end them. tis a consummation devoutly to be ......er .... er .....washed. (soapbox see?) |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: SharonA Date: 06 Sep 01 - 03:50 PM Yeah, M.Ted, I have a thick head but it CAN be gotten through eventually. BTW, no I haven't tried it yet (thanks for reminding me)! |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: katlaughing Date: 06 Sep 01 - 03:26 PM Thanks, Steve, excellent suggestion and it is fun to be able to post to this one instead! How about it being a refraining from drive-by posting, then we could post sweet refrains here, instead!**BG** katlaughing |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: M.Ted Date: 06 Sep 01 - 03:18 PM I think it's a good idea--and I am glad that Sharon understands the concept, and is posting here, rather than helping to keep "it" alive----by the way, Sharon, did you ever go and try the Perkasie Salad? |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: SINSULL Date: 06 Sep 01 - 12:45 PM Steve makes a point, somewhat convoluted but still a valid point. Posting to a thread brings it to the top, encourages the flamer, and so on and so on. Mary, who recently broke her own rule and answered a flamer. Good use of litotes, Steve...or is it litote? |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: SharonA Date: 06 Sep 01 - 12:44 PM ("Disposting" is a bit of a pun on "disposing".) (So if we were to collectively decide to refrain from responding to a thread, we would be "going dispostal") (as in "garbage dispostal") |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: GUEST,Scabby Doug - posting nothing on purpose Date: 06 Sep 01 - 12:29 PM |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: SharonA Date: 06 Sep 01 - 12:28 PM Well, now, if you're opening them and reading them, you're not ignoring them. We need a new term that means "not acknowledging a thread by replying to it." How about "disposting"? |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: GUEST,JohnB Date: 06 Sep 01 - 12:22 PM To actively ignore a thread, surely you would have to post to it. Reading a thread and not posting would be passively ignoring a thread. I guess I do both, I would not usually post to a thread like this but I thought this time I could add to the confusion. JohnB |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 06 Sep 01 - 12:18 PM I am ignoring a few threads as well, I can't remember witch ones though, I am going for a meal soon so I will ignore thwm all then.john |
Subject: RE: BS: Actively ignoring threads .. From: MMario Date: 06 Sep 01 - 12:16 PM isn't "ignoring" the same as "taking no notice"? or would that be dismissing without visible reaction? |
