Subject: RE: Where was Superman From: Eric the Viking Date: 16 Sep 01 - 04:43 PM Kids, Bill. I have heard the sadness with which Freja talked with us, seen the tears, watched Matt, who is not given much to displaying sadness outside go quiet and pale. He's nearly 14, but he's needed some big hugs this week since Tuesday, for the children of the world the future is looking black. Watched the re-run of this week on BBC 1 tonight, still so sad. Lest we forget |

Subject: RE: Where was Superman From: Noreen Date: 16 Sep 01 - 12:28 PM WHO ARE YOUR HEROES? (Les Barker) Tell me now who are your heroes? Tell me which have stirred your heart, How they live and breathe and function; Tell me what sets them apart. Tell me; are they brave and handsome? Are they in the public eye Or common folk, and merely mortal? Tell me do they fear to die? Tell me now who are your heroes? Some, I know, would canonise Those whose deeds entangle others In their own self sacrifice; Those who meet their fates believing Human lives are not so dear, Meeting death with pride and purpose, Seeking out what others fear. Tell me now, are these your heroes? Those who fear and yet still dare; When we all would flee to safety Here's the one who climbs the stair; Here's the one who meets the danger, Facing death for workman's wage; Facing death for friend or stranger, Unremarked by history's page. Tell me now, are these your heroes? Decent working folk who fought And died in fire and dust and debris, Whatever hell some fool has wrought. Brave beyond romance or beauty; Brave whatever brings the day; Time to live or die for duty, Do the job and go away. (A tribute to the rescue workers of New York from Les Barker's website.) |
Subject: RE: Where was Superman From: Gareth Date: 15 Sep 01 - 07:09 PM No Amos, this is too important to be left to the Generals. Douglas Haig genuinly thought he was correct. I beg to suggest that you read the C S Forester Novel, "The General" to put this in the proper prospective. What a bloody, bloody busines this is. BTW I was drinking with my member of Parliament (UK) last nite. One of the Chauvenistic A*******s butted in and suggested that Collin Powell was soft on terrorism and suggesting that A'ghanistan/Dublin Should be nuked. Full marks to our MP, he upset our A***hole by suggesting that as Collin Powell had seen combat from Platoon to C-in-C might explain why he was not "Gung Ho !" Gareth (Still praying for the dead and bereaved) |

Subject: Where was Superman From: bill\sables Date: 15 Sep 01 - 12:02 PM I just got home from our local supermarket. I was looking through the CD's which was next to the video section. Two kids were looking at the movies including Superman when the youngest, about 5 years old, said "Where was Superman when they bombed America" The older lad, who I presume was his brother about 9 years old answered "Didn't you see him on TV, he was wearing a firemans suit" The wisdom of kids.
