i have been looking for some music of a certain type. it can be best described (by me) as atmospheric/beat/irish music. that is to say... what something perhaps modern like ENIGMA would sound like if you discarded the chanting and replaced it with Irish reels set to the beat, and sometimes vocals... sung usually in Gaelic. in particular i am looking for certain artists' names, albums, etc. Slán!

Hi

Try Capercaillie, especially their newer stuff like "To the moon". They're actually Scottish, but they are atmospheric and some of it is very upbeat.

Also there is a compilation CD called "Electric Reels" which has a heap of upbeat stuff on it, can't give you any more details, I've lent it out.

A lot of the "Celtic" CDs (and there are a lot), from "Narada" (name of a record company rather than a group are atmospheric but not necessarily upbeat.

Otherwise try basically anything by Loreena McKennitt.

Slainte

Alison

You could try Shooglenifty (mentioned elswhere or Rock Salt & Nails. For atmosphere Runrig Play Gaelic is worth a listen I think it was their first album. Regards from Cornwall another Celtic nation.

All good music but not what david is looking for (I don't think anyway). Capercaillie's early stuff is trad. while their latest stuff is pop (though they do often sing in Gaelic. Runrig's early stuff is ceilidh band-ish whike their latest stuff is pure pop. Try Mouth Music on Rounder records who sing in gaelic but have all kinds of crazy influences (like Enigma) or Mary Jane Lamond who's lates CD Suas E is a mix of trad Gaelic and modern dance/pop all in Gaelic. Also Dead Can Dance an Irish band have similair influences as Enigma. Good Luck.
