The 'First war of the 21st Century?'

Hello?

Has President Bush visited the rest of the world, or it's war zones recently?

Silly me, I forget that he's hardly ever left his ranch.

Your President has said many studid things, but that comment must rank near the top.

American insularity could hardly be more graphically illustrated.

Peace and love to you all

Actually I thought he called it the First World War of the 21st Century. But then, the War to End All Wars was last century so its postulate has expired, i guess....

I'd be happier if he'd said "the last war of the 21st century", even if that would be more optimistic than I feel.

I can't see how calling whatever it is "a war" helps any. If it makes anybody feel better, fair enough. But it's never been a word to make me feel better about anything.

I believe he did say, "the first war of the 21st Century." At least that's the quote I heard.

He also said [today or yesterday] that "we" [Americans] have never seen such an atrocity before [or "never seen evil of this magnitude" before, or words to that effect]. I couldn't help wondering, "Did you ever hear of Hitler, Pol Pot [sp?], Stalin, etc?"

I don't know if it is just that he is not linguistically facile or that he is extraordinary nation-ocentric [to coin a word].

Would you have felt better about it if he had said; "the first war of the 21st. Century fought by Americans and brought about by..."?
I think that just about everyone who heard the spech knew that that's what he meant.
But, as we used to say in the Navy, there's always that id..t 1% that doesn't get the word.
