I've been searchin' on the Internet
All the live long day
I've been searchin' on the Internet
Piss--er--Passing time away
Looking for a bunch of photographs
I can mail someday
I still need a bunch of glossies
For the press kit right away

OK, so I got a wild hair tickling me in the hrummph. Behind all this foolishness is a serious question. Anybody know of somewhere I can get say 50 to 100 8X10 B&W glossy publicity photos reproduced? I have the negative. I'm not too impressed with Kinkos, they just printed 'em out on plain ol' paper. I met a couple of promoters that said these won't work. OK. So now I know. Getting them reporduced at the local 1 hour film developing place isn't exactly cheap. And they really don't like black and white. There must be some companies out there that still do this.
Thanks 'Catters
Jim

Hmmm...

OK, I'm reaching here - but you might want to call around to some of the 'office supply megastore' places. They do a lot of business copying for small places, and may be able to help you.

Barring that, maybe try contacting a local photographer and ask them?

Check your local camera shops; if they dont do professional developing, they may know of someone who does. Our local one has what I call a magic machine. It's made by Fuji and is like a copy machine, only what you get is an exact duplicate photograph, on photographic paper, sometimes better looking than the original, plus you can have them done in any size you want, and yes, they can do it from a slide or negative. Black and white is no problem.

When I couldn't afford good shot of my jewellry for sale, they put it right on this machine and it spit out gorgeous looking photographs. Amazing.

TIt may be a little pricey, is the only drawback. You can put as much in the 8 x 10 space or whatever space you want to pay for, so it is less expensive is you say four of a small photo which they can print on a bigger sheet and then just trim each one to foud individuals, but that wouldn't work if you have to have 8 x 10's.

You might check Fuji online for a store which would have that machine.

Hope this helps,

kat

Costco and Price Club has deals on photoprocessing. My father gets the before and after pictures for his renovation business done there.

Also you can find a local photographer and ask where he/she gets their work done. or look up photoprocessing in the yellow pages and ask for a quote. good luck!

Thanks all. It would seem that in this age that there would be some sort of copy machine that could just crank out 8X10s for just pennies a piece.

The guy who took the original picture lives in my town, I think I'll go ask his advice. Maybe he has some ideas. Thanks Kat.

Jack, we don't have a Costco or a Price Club where I live. But thanks anyway.

Go to a professional photo processing lab--they are the guys who do all the stuff for ad agencies, graphics companies--etc, they will be able to give you anything from 8"x10"s to the translucent things that they put on the side of bus shelters--there are usually a few in every large city--best way is to ask your photographer friend (assuming he is a working photographer) who does this stuff in your area--I have no idea what the charges are anymore--I once had a photo lab for a client and they brought me copy for their price card--1-50 prints were a dollar each, 51-75 were $0.75, 76-100 were $0.50 each--I was just glad I wasn't their accountant--

Contact your local musicians union. Ask them to recommend company's that specialize in graphics and photo reproductions. Also, Check the yellow pages. Contact other musicians you know with professional 8 X 10s or photographers that specialize in band promo shots and ask them to recommend a couple of places that specialize in photo reproductions in quantity. Should most definitely cost you less that what you'd pay at a photo lab. The word "reproductions" should be one of your main keyword searches in the yellow pages. Best of luck.

Are you in England or the USA ? The people you want in England are: Visualeyes www.visnet.co.uk (e-mail: imaging@vis.u-net.com) for good quality but reasonably priced bulk printing of black and white 8 x 10. They keep your negative on file, so you can re-order any time. They're not the cheapest (there are loads of very cheap companies advertising in "The Stage") but they will give you the kind of quality you need so that the casting people know you are serious. Some people these days are printing smaller colour photos in the top corner of their CVs, but casting people still prefer a good quality separate black and white 8 x 10 as well - they're an old-fashioned lot. (This info. comes "straight from the horse's mouth" from casting/audition training at RADA)

If you're in the USA - I would suggest contacting a good drama school or actors' trade union - they will be able to tell you where their people go to get their photos copied - don't rely on adverts in the stage press. It's worth spending a bit more, because it's the first split-second impression that counts. Hope this helps - Good Luck !

Thanks to all who responded. I checked my hometown phone book, and the woman at a photo supply store suggested that I look up one of the ads in the back of a photographic magazine. She said I'd be sure to fine one in Chicago, for instance that could do the job for something like 39¢ per unit.

Failing that, I think perhaps the musicians' union idea may be a good one, even though my experience with the Kansas City local AF of M hasn't been all that great.
