Subject: RE: Tune Req: johny comes marching home (whistle From: Uncle Jaque Date: 12 Oct 01 - 09:51 PM Ahoy there: Check out the Company of Fifers & Drummers website, which has it's published music on line. "Johnny" is at: http://www.fifedrum.org/resources/music/gif/company2/f18.shtml It is one of the 3rd Maine Field Music's (Civil War Reenacting) favorite parade tunes. Fingering for the whistle is essentially the same as for the Fife; of course the key it will come out in will depend on your whistle (most military fifes are pitched in Bb ). Most fife music, and a great deal of fiddle music, apparantly, is whistle - friendly; for the most part in "D" (##) occasionally "G" (# - with C natural), and for the show - offs who can pull G# out with regularity, the rare "A" (###). We do it in medley with "New Tatter Jack" and a drum arrangement by Drum Major Rodger Beverage, and it is a big hit with the Infantry and audience alike. If you are interested in patriotic airs for the whistle, try "Battle Cry of Freedom" AKA "Rally 'Round the Flag", "Yellow Rose of Texas", "Battle Hymn" (another one of our mainstays, naturally), "Red, White, and Blue" (a little more advanced) and if you are really adept at cross-fingering, half-holing etc. try the "Star Spangled Banner", also on this site I beleive. |

I'd be intrigued to see music/ABC for it if you have such a thing....? PM me at Cantrip, not weepiper. She'll get stroppy with me otherwise. Cheers! |
