Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Diamonds & Rust - Joan Baez From: SharonA Date: 24 Oct 01 - 10:55 AM No problem, John... and no need to be red-faced. I just wish I knew an easy way to describe the picking sequence I use when playing the song, that won't totally confuse the reader (and the writer!). |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Diamonds & Rust - Joan Baez From: John Hardly Date: 23 Oct 01 - 07:57 PM *red face* Thanks Sharon! I wish I could correct the post .....I got the X33210 graph right and still misnamed the chord. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Diamonds & Rust - Joan Baez From: Bluegrass Girl Date: 23 Oct 01 - 06:39 PM John & Sharon -- You're both incredibly kind! I'll go both ways (minor/major question in the bridge). Hard to believe that it was so very long ago -- a song with which I believe so many can still identify. Thanks again to you both! BGB |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Diamonds & Rust - Joan Baez From: SharonA Date: 23 Oct 01 - 06:22 PM Bravo, John! Well posted! Okay, those are close to the chords I use. I think, though, that the chord in the bridge that is played during the lyric "strictly for me, we both could have died then and" is an Fmajor7, not an Fminor7 as noted. Also, the cool part after the bridge starts, as noted, with a B7 chord, but after that it goes directly to XXX403, XXX505, XXX403, XXX202, XXX002, 221202, 022000 and then on to the last verse. You're right, John: the best part is noodling around with the piece and having fun embellishing the arrangement with one's own little touches! Have a ball with it, Bluegrass Girl! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Diamonds & Rust - Joan Baez From: Mark Cohen Date: 23 Oct 01 - 06:12 PM Thanks for posting those words and chords, John. For me it brings back memories of the neonatal intensive care unit at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA in 1975. (I was a med student, and it seems like that song was playing every day of my pediatrics rotation there--but I still liked it!) By the way, if you're having trouble getting into Mudcat, do you know about the alternate servers? If you try http://ragtime.mudcat.org or http://loki.mudcat.org you can usually get in. There's one more whose name I've forgotten (so what else is new?) Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Diamonds & Rust - Joan Baez From: John Hardly Date: 23 Oct 01 - 09:56 AM well hell. I tried to get fancy with the title. Obviously a makes a line break too I tried to post this last night (as I said) but have been unable to get on the mudcat since yesterday afternoon. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Diamonds & Rust - Joan Baez From: SharonA Date: 22 Oct 01 - 04:30 PM Ooh! Can't wait to see if John uses the same chords I do (I do that Em intro on the song, also). Bluegrass Girl, I'm sorry to hear that someone(s?) got snotty with you for asking for chords to a song; I think it's safe to say that the majority of people here are, like John, happy to help (myself included!). If John doesn't get around to posting the chords he uses, I'll post mine; I might just do it anyway, if his differ from mine. Sharon |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Diamonds & Rust - Joan Baez From: John Hardly Date: 22 Oct 01 - 10:56 AM I'll post them by this evening (if someone doesn't beat me to it). Always happy to help! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Diamonds & Rust - Joan Baez From: Bluegrass Girl Date: 22 Oct 01 - 10:12 AM John H -- Yes! Would love to receive the chords. Was afraid to ask, as the last time I asked for chords to a song, I got a lot of snotty flack. How very kind of you. Anxiously awaiting. Bluegrass Girl |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Diamonds & Rust - Joan Baez From: Little Hawk Date: 21 Oct 01 - 07:02 PM Joan has written a number of very unique and good songs (as well as some not so good). I'd say "Diamonds & Rust" is her masterpiece. - LH |

Subject: Diamonds & Rust - Joan Baez From: Bluegrass Girl Date: 21 Oct 01 - 06:51 PM After reading the (somewhat recent) diatribe against Ms Baez, may I just say that I simply want the words to this particular song? No opinion on JB whatsoever. Just remember this fine old song from my past, and would like to try it again for selected gigs. Thanks to anyone who will/can help.
