My adorabole, wonderful manager, for whom I've worked for 6 of the 8 years I've been at this firm, has had his position eliminated in a reorg (I'm safe). We're going to have a party for him, of course, but I'd like a song I can sing that is more of a lament than Dear Boss, which is a great song that I'd also like to sing. I've looked through the Trad but didn't see anything (didn't spend too much time) - anybody got any suggestions? Sympathy also accepted.

Good managers are rare -- so you're not only losing a good boss, but don't know exactly how bad your next one will be!

Unfortunately the only good boss song I can think of is "Doffing Mistress" which probably isn't appropriate.

Good luck on staying gainfully employed! And I hope the next person you report to is also a good manager.

Well, I now report directly to the person my old boss used to report to, so actually I *do* know just how bad she'll be... but I'm one leg up on the org chart! And I'll look for Doffing Mistress, sound great. More?

In the DT as Doffin' Mistress. It was probably that dropped G that made it not show up in the search.

My sympathies, Mrrzy. I went through the same thing back in March of this year. My former manager, after she was laid off, went ahead and took the vacations she'd planned, and she is now an elementary-school teacher's aide. Though she took a cut in pay, she couldn't be happier with the way things have turned out for her, as far as her life situation is concerned (more time to spend with her granddaughters, and she also does bookkeeping for the family business). Besides, she was let go before the company cut its termination benefits by better than half!

Sure do miss her around the office, though.
