It won't surprise you, I'm sure, that I hope you are disappointed. Frankly, Bob, I think the DBacks are the better team, and tonight's win had nothing at all to do with luck. The Yankees looked pretty pitiful, I thought.

Hey, Doug, nice to see that we do agree on the important things! The question is, who will be Arizona's Mazeroski? Or maybe they won't need one...

Aloha,
Mark

Me too! I think the Yanks win when they have their backs against the wall.I have a feeling that Schillings arm is a little tired. Lets hope we rock them tonight early!I don't think the snakes playing new York,New York at the end of the game helped the Backs much. Now it's our turn to carpet bomb the bastards!Sh SH sh sh sh shark...mudshark

I'm still with the Yanks but the DB's are a veteran team and certainly have the talent (no matter how acquired). But to be truthful, I kinda' wouldn't mind another helping of crow if it's a close game and Kim comes in and makes the save with only a few pitches. I really do feel for the kid and I'd hate to see this series so far be his defining moment in baseball. A nice ending if he comes in and makes the save.

Doug, that was a reference to 1960, and Mazeroski's 7th-game-winning homer for the Pirates over the Yanks. One of my earliest memories of televised baseball.

i'm hoping that he won't have to come in for a save, cause the yanks will be so far ahead, but that's only wishing, with clemmons and schilling i think that tonite is going to be a breathtaking game with few runs and few hits and a lot of strikeouts. BOB

Hey there Doug, one great big congratulations from Heather and I here in Toronto!

I was gonna start a thread saying "Way to Go Doug"! but figured only Catspaw would know immediately what I meant. Better to get ya here.

Marvelous series... Man, Clemons and Schilling...those guys were intense!

Cheers

Rick, I had about given up. In the eighth inning my chin was dragging on the floor. Then Finley came to bat ... It was a great series, and even if NY had won, I would have felt good about it ...but not AS good! Thanks.

Nice game. First time I've ever managed to force myself to sit through a full game without someone pumping half a keg into me first. Probably the last, as well. Now where is that NHL schedule?

Anybody remember my posts on the world series thread part 1, on 29-Oct-01 - 10:58 AM and 01-Nov-01 - 11:44 AM?

Can she call it? YES, SHE CAN!!

Wow, what a terrific game #7 was! As 53Bob said, "a breathtaking game with few runs and few hits and a lot of strikeouts," and the D'backs pulling their butts out of the fire in the bottom of the 9th! That's the biggest thing I LOVE about this game: there's no such thing as letting the clock run out because it's pointless to make an effort to win; either baseball team can turn the game in their favor up until the last possible moment.

I'm happy for you, DougR! Can't wait to see what the Diamondbacks do next year!

Sharon

Sharon, you called it alright! Everyone here is still walking on clouds. The Dbacks won the game the ideal way in the 9th inning with the best closer in baseball on the mound!

They surely earned their crown! What a white-knuckle closer! I enjoyed listening to the guy on NPR this morning talk about the confusion among the reporters who were mobbing the NY clubhouse anticipating a NY win in the bottom of the 9th, when it became clear that they were standing in the wrong place!

Of course we here in Seattle were all rooting for Arizona out of our own sour-grapes frustration. Plus, it's always been fashionable here to hate the Yankees, and especially their fans, even in years when we didn't get into the playoffs. Smug, self-congratulatory SOB's.

Good show, DBs!

well, the Yankees have won so damn many, it's sorta nice to see someone else win..(I remember the Dodgers ONE win back in the 50s)...but this is one series where everyone won!..The Yankees have nothing to be ashamed of and made it a series to be talked about for many years!...just lots of good baseball

This World Series is what baseball is all about. Questionable managing at times, tremendous clutch hitting, second guessing from us fans, older players with the D'Backs finally attaining the highest pinnacle in their profession and finally, redemption. In short, the beauty and heart break of the game.Baseball needed this Series very badly and this is the good. Now comes the bad in the off season, what with potential contraction, labour strife and the CBA. It's kind of baseballs' "ground zero".But for now all true baseball fans should savour every inning the the Fall Classic.

Nope....Been gone better part of the day and wanted a chance to post something legit.

Doug, break out the crow and serve it up, I won't mind eating it at all! That was one helluva game and I'd echo what Chinmusic said. It had great drama and all the elements which makes baseball still a good game. There is alwyas a symetry to the game that no other game equals. guy makes an error and redeems himself with ahomer; questionable call by a manger is highlighted but the determination in his eyes and voice inspires his team; a great pitching duel with the game being finished by two great pitchers also; old guys getting there shot; young guys who will be in the playoffs for years.......a full count with bases loaded and the game rides on one pitch, one hit.

I hope the DB's start to rebuild now and also prove me wrong in not going the way of the Marlins. I also hope they develop the farm system the older teams have built and draw on. I'm not a Yankees fan, but I go to several games every year for their Triple A Club, the Clippers, here in Columbus....a lot of talent there (I LOVE minor league ball!! About 10 times more fun to watch and my entire family can go and get refreshments and all for under 40 bucks, sometimes less than $20!)

Rip me off a piece or two of that crow and I'll start eatin' Doug! This series was worth it!

Spaw

Catspaw49- I was raised on baseball from an early age here in Toronto attended many a Toronto Maple Leaf game when they were part of the Int'l League. Although we now have the Blue Jays, I will always remember fondly going to Maple Leaf Stadium and soaking in the atmosphere and the scents and smells of baseball in my youth. I totally understand your affection for minor league baseball and there has never been a ballpark I've entered were from heart does not beat a little faster from the sheer exileration of seeing a ball game. The minor leagues is a place that does not cost you an arm and a leg just to sit a watch a baseball game on a warm summer night. The business of baseball has tried to tear the heart out of us loyal fans but the game remains great. I enjoy other sports as well, but there's something about baseball that has a grip on me and will never leave 'til they put me on the wrong side of the lawn. It's music and baseball that are my passions and I can't wait for next year when those men in blue yell out "Play Ball". Then the world will seem a much better place to live. Incidentally, I remember Columbus when it was a Pirate farm team and saw great players like Gene Alley, Willie Stargell among others. Boy do I suddenly feel like getting into a rocking chair.

I couldn't agree more Chinmusic....well told! I've been watching Columbus since we were the Redbirds in the 50's...then the Jets.....now the Clippers.

Almost any game has some special thing going on from helmets to bats to the Chicken to hot dogs and if you have many friends at all, somebody is always getting free tickets somewhere. This year our two families (4 adult and 4 kids) had free tickets to "Dime-A-Dog" night. Getting there early we were able to upgrade our tickets to box seats behind third for 3 bucks a ticket. We ate a total of about 40 hot dogs, had some cokes, peanuts and the like and the whole night cost a total of fifty bucks for 8 people! Geeziz, I can't get into an Indians or Reds game for that anymore.

Ya' know one of the best things that's happened at the stadium in a long time? We got REAL grass again...........and you can smell the difference!!!!

Mark Grace said that the other D-backs were wondering out loud if he'd brought the Cubs curse (the one the goat put on the Cubs) with him to his new team. After the series he said that now that he has his ring, the curse on the Cubs is most assuredly lifted.

It's about time !!!

'Spaw, I know what you mean about minor league ball. I was lucky enough to have moved here to Hilo when there still was a Hawaii Winter Baseball League, mostly I think A and AA players. We have a tiny stadium here, and you could really get close to the game in a way that a huge stadium doesn't allow. I also still remember the thrill of trudging through the dark depths of Connie Mack Stadium and suddenly bursting out into the sunshine with the bright green grass and bright red and white Phillies uniforms. Today's fluorescent-lit theme park stadia don't have the same feeling. Grumble, grumble, grumble....

Sure was a helluva series, though. And I'm with you, 'Spaw, in hoping the Dbacks stay around for a while instead of folding their expensive tents like the Marlins did.

Aloha,
Mark

We play ball in a big conrete ediface called "Skydome". It feels more like going a to game in a shopping mall. Baseball is not baseball without a grass field and as Dick Allen once said "If my horse can't eat it, then I don't want to play on it." Here's a short trip down memory lane. I once saw Leaf pitcher Rip Coleman throw 8 2/3 innings of perfect no hit ball when Nino Escalera bunted for a base hit. It broke every heart in the joint, but that was baseball then. Now they bitch if you throw a bit inside these days. What the heck is the game coming to? I remember when Early Wynn was asked if he'd throw at his own mother the next time up if she'd hit a homer off him. He said definitely not but he'd sure as hell knock her down. Them were the days.

Spaw, you've confused me. The DBacks do have farm teams in Tucson and in El Paso. Several of the younger DBacks players came up from one of those teams including Durazo.

It was a great series, and if we ever find ourselves in the same city, I'll be happy to serve you up a bit of crow.

We haven't really came down out of the clouds yet around here.
