Subject: RE: Help: looking for certain coins. From: GUEST,Ed. (can't get a cookie) Date: 04 Nov 01 - 04:02 PM Bob, Have you tried CoinCollector.org? They have message boards there, and I'm sure you'd get a better response than posting here. Ed (who posts mosts of his computer problems to mudcat, so cannot talk) |

Subject: RE: Help: looking for certain coins. From: Clifton53 Date: 06 Nov 01 - 08:38 AM bob, those coins are very common and I think you could find them right in your change if you keep looking. Remember the U.S. stopped using silver in it's 25 cent pieces in 1964 for coins going into circulation. The two coins you mention, you should be able to buy them in uncirculated condition for very little money. Clifton |
Subject: RE: Help: looking for certain coins. From: 53 Date: 06 Nov 01 - 09:46 AM I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THEM IN POCKET CHANGE FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS NOW AND I KNOW THAT I COULD BUY THEM AT A COIN DEALER, BUT I FIND IT VERY UNUSUAL THAT THESE 2 COINS ARE SO HARD TO FIND IN EVERYDAY POCKET MONEY. I ALSO HAVE ABOUT 6 OTHER PEOPLE LOOKING ALSO, AND THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND THEM EITHER, BUT THANKS FOR YOUR POST. BOB |
Subject: RE: Help: looking for certain coins. From: Clifton53 Date: 06 Nov 01 - 12:04 PM Well I hope you find them anyway. What is the sound of one man cutting slack?? What's with the caps BOB?? Everything else you post is lower case!! Are you yelling at me?? Cliffcoinoftherealm |
Subject: RE: Help: looking for certain coins. From: Sorcha Date: 06 Nov 01 - 01:05 PM I found the nickels......PM sent. |
Subject: RE: Help: looking for certain coins. From: Sorcha Date: 06 Nov 01 - 01:16 PM It is more fun to collect that way, isn't it? No fun at all to just go buy them. I also noticed going through jars of coins, that some years are very common, 1964 nickels, for example. I would guess that is because of mint runs. Some years fewer new coins were needed so fewer were minted. Another interesting thing I discovered is that apparently the metal alloy changes from year to year. Some years hold up very well for a long time, others wear out within a few years. The new State Quarters are very soft and don't even feel like quarters to me. |

Subject: RE: Help: looking for certain coins. From: GUEST,Jenny the T Date: 08 Nov 01 - 09:55 AM The coin collectors' site was interesting, but it seems to be devoted strictly to US denominations. Would anybody know of a similar site for European (especially Irish and UK) coinage? thanks, JtT |
Subject: RE: Help: looking for certain coins. From: Ed. Date: 08 Nov 01 - 10:55 AM Jenny, Not sure which parts of that site interested you, so difficult to say. A couple of sites that might interest you can be found here and here If you want to discuss things with others, the usenet group uk.rec.collecting.coins may be of help. Best of all, use a search engine like google You'll be able to find the best sites for yourself that way. Ed |
Subject: RE: Help: looking for certain coins. From: GUEST,Sledge Date: 08 Nov 01 - 11:04 AM Jenny, try www.numis.co.uk for a good list of regional uk dealers some of which have web sites. Cheers Sledge |
Subject: RE: Help: looking for certain coins. From: Ed. Date: 08 Nov 01 - 11:55 AM www.numis.co.uk . Much better than my recommendations |
