Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Haul Boys Haul From: GUEST,Heyo Date: 08 Jul 10 - 09:38 AM I know this is an old thread and I can't find much to back me up here, but personally I've always heard (and sung) the last line of the chorus as "my amour" and not "miami" or "my Emma". Not every sailor has an Emma (or a Miami), but all of them have amour - love. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: HAUL BOYS HAUL From: GUEST,The Fishin' Musician Date: 08 Nov 01 - 04:07 PM Sorcha - thanks a million for the lyrics and the website, too! A note: although Johnny Collins sings this song, he says it is traditional with some added lyrics (not his). And MMario - the website for The Bilge Pumps is a hoot, so do try again to get in. I couldn't get in with the link, but got in right away with the old copy-and-paste routine in the address bar. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: HAUL BOYS HAUL From: Sorcha Date: 08 Nov 01 - 03:58 PM That makes more sense than Miami. I wondered what the deal was. I don't know the song, I just found it on line. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: HAUL BOYS HAUL From: GUEST,MCP Date: 08 Nov 01 - 03:55 PM Sorcha - having heard Johnny sing this hundreds of times, I've been under the impression the last line of the chorus was:"My Emma, My Emma, Won't you be true to me". Mick |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: HAUL BOYS HAUL From: Sorcha Date: 08 Nov 01 - 03:32 PM My server has timed out twice trying to send it. I'll try later. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: HAUL BOYS HAUL From: MMario Date: 08 Nov 01 - 03:23 PM not too big for my e-mail - but as I said - I couldn't get to the site. Maybe they are busy. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: HAUL BOYS HAUL From: Sorcha Date: 08 Nov 01 - 03:18 PM Then again, maybe not. Server timed out--it's 355 KB. Is that too big? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: HAUL BOYS HAUL From: Sorcha Date: 08 Nov 01 - 03:11 PM Oh, grin. I's sending you (I hope) the tune e mail so the thing has a tune for the list.......maybe you can figure out a way to post it, unless chantey tunes are more or less same? |

HAUL BOYS HAUL
Now when I was a schoolboy I lived at home at ease
Chorus:
Now every night in winter, as regular as a clock
Chorus
No when the fish are up on deck, a pilin' to our knees
Chorus
With winter passin' over and springtime comin' on
Chorus
And when out trip is over, hard up the tiller goes
Chorus:
