Great idea, Bert. I added a link to this thread in the PermaThreads list on the FAQ. As I noted in the Song Circle Locations thread, your method may not work very well for song circles, which are usually held once a month, on the same day of the month every time. Compiling a calendar of exact dates might be an overwhelming effort, since these events are recurring.
How about compiling a similar chart and pasting it into the first message in the Song Circle thread? If you don't have the time, I'll get to it, sooner or later.

Sorry that this thread was getting a little unwieldy. I cut it down to 39 messages by deleting all concert dates that are now past. Hope I didn't delete anything I wasn't supposed to, but I do have a backup copy of everything on my computer. Please try to be patient about things like this - all of the work at Mudcat is done by volunteers, and those volunteers sometimes have more pressing obligations.

Jill Rogoff, a very fine singer of British Isles songs, is going to give a House Concert, "Winter Songs", on February 16, at 7:00pm in Berkeley, CA.

Jill has a very clear, strong, soprano voice and sings accapella as well as to guitar and lap-harp and accompaniment. A polyglot, Jill sings the songs in their original languages, including something called English. Her singing is very simple, direct, and understated.

New Zealand born, Jill lives in Jerusalem, and is one pillars of Israel Folkstuff Society. She is very popular in Israel and is developing a strong reputation in Ireland and the United Kingdom. She is almost unheard of stateside, but I suspect that won't be true for long.

The admission will be $10 in advance, and $12 at the door. Every one is encouraged to linger after the concert for a song-swap (Hence the early starting time).

Down at Flannery's makes it's public debut on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Maggie's in San Antonio, Texas. We play traditional Irish tunes and songs, plus a few tunes/songs from Scotland, US and other places.

The show is a fundraiser for the Black Bexar Pipe Band, and begins at 7pm with pipe tunes from individuals and the BBPB, and Down at Flannery's comes on between 8:30-9pm.

Students can get a closer look at the world this year as musicians from all corners of the earth make Tennessee's oldest town their temporary home this spring.

Pangaea (pan-GEE-uh) World Music Festival will make its debut May 3-5, 2002, in Jonesborough, bringing a wide variety of internationally-acclaimed musicians.

When the likes of Grammy Award-winning entertainer, Dr. Ralph Stanley (Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?) and Grammy Award 2002 nominee Trout Fishing In America (Nominee for Best Children's Album) move into town to highlight the musical line-up, the bluegrass and Americana/children's entertainment will obviously be at its best.

But that's only part of the musical menu.

Pangaea will bring sounds from as far away as China, Chile, Switzerland and Africa as part of the three-day extravaganza. Featuring musical samples of everything from jazz to Cajun, folk to Latin rhythms and beyond, special entertainment programming will be included on Friday to accommodate school groups. Music-related workshops and a World Bazaar with ethnic food and shops will also highlight the event. Performances will be in enclosed venues called "villages".

In a way, Pangaea has been in the making for more than five years. Music On The Square (MOTS), the brainchild of local artisan, musician and businessman, Steve Cook, has drawn hundreds of music lovers downtown on warm summer Friday nights, bringing their chairs, their families and their appetites for diverse offerings of music performed in the courthouse square.

Encouraged by MOTS' success, organizer Steve Cook has now decided to take the concept even further. He says the festival will be an especially wonderful opportunity for students and their families to experience the performing arts of many different cultures.

"We are attempting to create a very educational as well as entertaining event where we hope our visitors will experience the music and cultures of faraway places which they may never have a chance to explore otherwise," said Cook.

According to Cook, the festival's rather odd name comes from an old scientific theory of continental drift. German meteorologist Alfred Wegener in 1912 theorized that about 200 million years ago, before wind, water and gravity took its effect on the world, all the continents were one huge land mass. Wegener called this "one land" Pangaea.

"We're basing this world music festival concept not only on unique entertainment," Cook said, "but on the hope that, through music, we can all learn from and enjoy the many cultures of the world, hopefully making us closer as an international society."

Saturday Concert Series to Benefit the Stan Yoder Memorial Preserve

The new Yoder Concert Series to benefit the Stan Yoder Memorial
Preserve is planned for each Saturday evening, beginning September
21, at Brewer's Village Cafe in downtown Boalsburg PA, on the diamond.
Musicians will perform from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., in a
non-smoking, all-ages environment. The atmosphere of good music and
good food will include appetizers, "Sweet Indulgence" desserts,
coffee, tea, and soft drinks (or you may B.Y.O.B.).

The Stan Yoder Memorial Preserve is a 15-acre nature preserve in
Boalsburg. Yoder was a active member of the community and former
president of The Boalsburg Conservancy. The Conservancy plans to
purchase the preserve and sell it back to Harris Township. The Stan
Yoder Preserve is for the enjoyment and education of residents of the
Centre Region. The land will be a Centre Region Park and Nature
Preserve.

Richard Sleigh, harmonica and guitar player, will start the series
with his concert on September 21, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at
Brewer's Village Cafe. Sleigh has explored the harmonica from the
inside out for most of his life, building custom harmonicas for the
past 6 years. As a soloist, Richard sings, plays acoustic guitar and
harmonica. His music is primarily American roots style with songs
ranging from country & urban blues, country music, fiddle tunes,
swing, gospel, and early rock & roll.

His latest CD, "The Joliet Sessions," was recorded in 1996 in Joliet,
Illinois. The music is a combination of blues, bluegrass and celtic
instrumentals, a unique rendition of the classic "16 Tons," and a
solo harmonica/vocal version of Peter Green's "Oh Well." This
recording showcases Sleigh's fluid and highly developed
rack-harmonica playing, soulful vocals, rhythm guitar, and intricate
solo harp flights. He has performed with Iain Matthews, Taj Mahal,
Maria Muldaur, Bo Diddley, Susan Werner, and many others as a
harmonicist.

An acoustic concert of Traditional song in honour of singer Eddie Butcher of Magilligan. Host Brian Mullen of BBC Foyle recalls this legendary performer's repertoire in words and music, and introduces contemporary singers who carried his and others' melodies and lyrics from the early 1900s into the new century .

Eddie Butcher (1900-80) lived a tough but simple life as a farm labourer and road worker at Aughil townland. He and his three brothers were all singers – "from a singing family in a singing locality" as Portrush song collector John Moulden puts it. He had a hundred- odd pieces, some of them composed by himself, others partly constructed by him. He was "a robust singer, accented in the almost Scottish way of North Derry", with a subtle dramatic delivery. Well documented in his life time by Hugh Shields of Trinity College Dublin, he became popular during the 1960s through radio broadcasts, an iconic album, and the early Traditional music revival scene. Andy Irvine of the group Planxty, Paul Brady, Len Graham, and Dubliner Frank Harte were among those who learnt some of their most iconic songs at his fireside. (P)

Len Graham of Glenarm, Co. Antrim picked up his art from his parents in an intense home environment of singing and music, his selection of Ulster pieces later being picked up by others all over the island.

Rosie Stewart from Belcoo, Co. Fermanagh, grew up in an locality rich in song, began singing since she was a child, heavily influenced by her father's style.

Chris Myles of Kirkaldy, Scotland, has the powerful articulation and projection of the Lowlands, singing the 'big' ancient ballads and modern Traditional-style compositions. Peta Webb has a wonderful street-singer style and subtle finesse in pitch and dynamics, a repertoire influenced by Irish immigrants to her native London, by the great English ballads and by the American Old Time tradition. Brian Mullen has not only absorbed much of Eddie Butcher's style, but has a repertoire developed out of Donegal Gaelic tradition, East-coast United States migrated lyrics, and English-language Ulster song.

Together they present a panorama of the shades of voice that make up these islands' onetime most popular artistic expression. It demonstrates distinctive accents and styles, shared and inter-borrowed melodies, and locally composed, adopted and adapted lyrics, all of which comprise the body of English-language, Traditional singing in Ulster today.

The concert is the first in a programme of Traditional music performance and discussion events to be run by the Academy for Irish Cultural Heritages at the University of Ulster.

Special night at the Unicorn, Manchester, UK

The regulars at Harry Boardman's old club at the Unicorn, Manchester, having moved to the Ducie for many years, are now back at the Unicorn (pub now under folk-tolerant new management).

It's mostly a singaround on Wednesdays, but on Friday November 15 they are having a special club evening featuring Mary Humphreys and Anahata. Mary was a long term resident at the original Unicorn club who has recently moved to Cambridge and is looking forward to revisiting her old haunt. This weekend, October 4 and 5, is the Sharlot Hall Festival on the grounds of the Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott, Arizona.

This a pleasant gathering of musicians from all over Arizona. No one is paid for performing, but everyone has a great time- performers and listeners alike. The weather is usually just about perfect - sunny and warm in the daytime, cool at night. The monthly folk evening at The West Cheshire Sailing Club, Ocean Drive, Wallasey, Wirral, hosted by Reckless Elbow. It's an informal folk night with music from about 9.00pm 'till late. Real fire, candles on tables and friendly atmosphere. What better than a lovely warm summer evening, with a beautiful sunset over the Irish Sea (visible from the bar window!), accompanied by the best of Wirral folk music, and beyond!



Friday 11th and Saturday 12th July 2003
The Bull Bay Charity Folk Festival, Bull Bay, Anglesey. A great weekend of music-making and fund-raising for local charities, centred at the Bull Bay Hotel. It actually starts on the Friday at the Golf Club, but the remainder is based at the hotel. Extended this year to include the Sunday night. Good music, food and beer, lovely scenery. Camping available.

Once again we play on the big stage at the Moelfre Lifeboat Day, Angelesy, to raise money for the R.N.L.I. Our friends, Pigs Ear (or maybe the duo, Pork Scratchings), will be on at about 2.30pm, then it's the lifeboat display, and we'll be on about 4pm. it's a great fun day and for a good cause. Camping available.



Sunday August 24th 2003
We're playing at our favourite Lake District pub, The Eagle and Child at Staveley, between Kendal and Windermere. Join us for informal fun, good food and great beer. Free, on about 9pm, until late (Bank Holiday the next day). Check out the links page for the pub.



Wednesday September 10th 2003
Our own Phil will be doing a guest slot at The Bromborough Folk Club, in The Bridge Inn, Port Sunlight. Once in a while, instead of having a regular singers night, they start with a singers night and then put on a 'local folk celebrity' - on this night it wil be Phil. It's always a free entry at this club but the raffle is compulsory! The evening starts at about 8.45 and Phil will do the last 30-45 minutes, including some songs from his forthcoming CD. Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September 2003
The end of the infamous 'Clipper' Round the World Yacht Race. The Liverpool clipper, skippered by our mate Adam, will be returning to Liverpool, hopefully in first place on the Saturday. Most of us will be playing at The Woodside Ferry Terminal Cafe as part of a whole host of activities to welcome the ships home. We'll be there from 10.30 till about 3 on Saturday and 12.00 till 2 on Sunday.

For catters in UK southeast, to test the effect of impromptu sessions, I will be having a picnic lunch this Sunday 5th June (provided it's not raining) at Whatman park, Maidstone, Kent...near the Millennium Theatre, by the river.

If anyone should chance to appear with voice, or instrument, well that would be fortuitous, wouldn't it?

Who knows, an impromptu session might develop, and that would be fun.

Of course, I can't organise it, as that carries a penalty of up to £ 20,000, or six months in jail, but I can't stop anyone from joining in, can I?

For those of you who do not live in Barrie, trust me when I say that this day will be worth the drive! It is a green event though so we are avid supporters of car pooling.

effort to increase public awareness and support for the Minesing Wetlands.

The Minesing Wetlands is a 15,000 acre provincially significant wetland complex that has been recognized under the Ramsar Convention as being internationally significant, placing it in a class alongside the Florida Everglades and the Baltic Marshes of the USSR.
The Friends are a non profit organization dedicated to protecting the ecological integrity of Minesing Swamp and its supporting watershed. The Friends are currently in the middle of a significant fundraising initiative to raise money for the completion of an intensive flora and fauna inventory of the Minesing Wetlands.

This inventory will serve as a crucial ingredient in the campaign to have Minesing Wetlands designated as a World Biosphere Reserve.

    Those are the bare bones facts about the Wild Hog gig. The extra fun part is that the whole show will be recorded live for my next CD," The Ghost of Thirsty Joe and Other Stories". I'd love to have you there to be part of it. I'm usually kind of lively any way, but if there's somebody recording it I get wilder and crazier than is normal even for me.

    I'll be doing my own songs like Porchlight Blues, and Trucker's Secret (Turn To The Right),
covers of work from other fine songwriters such as Aaron Nathan's Fire on the Prairie, and Nancy Rost's Boscobel.

    There will also be lots of newer stuff like Alan Moorhouse's We Will Walk, some new verses for You Can't Do It All It All On Your Own (which I wrote with Alan Moorhouse and Sandy Andina).

    Comedy, of course will be a big part of the show. We may even have a visit from "The Lizard".
   
    I hope that you'll join me on Nov. 10th. We're going to have one heck of a good time!!

Exit M6 J33, turn R at A6 roundabout and follow A6 into Lancaster (4 miles).

It is with great pleasure that I can announce that there will be a music session in the Royal Hotel in Blairgowrie, Perthshire on Thursday 29th March. This will be the first of regular sessions and all singers, poets, musicians are welcome.It starts at 8.30 in the bar.
Bring an instrument, bring a friend . Sing a song, tell a story have a good night out.
With good support from local musicians this will evolve into a folk club with ocassional guests and who know it may revive the Blairgowrie Folk Festival.

Second Saturday Music 2007

Second Saturday Music begins its summer season May 12th featuring singer and songwriter, Jed Marum. Currently living in Texas, Marum has performed for audiences at many Celtic and Folk festivals throughout North America. Jed's musical style is American Celtic with strong Bluegrass Roots.

The concert, held in Twin Springs Park Gazebo, Siloam Springs will begin at 7:30 p.m. Second Saturday Music is pleased to announce the Siloam Springs, "Friends of the Library" will be offering refreshments and several vendors from the Siloam Springs Farmer's Market will have items for sale. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. In the event of rain, the concert will move across the street to the Sager Creek Art Center. There is no admission and donations are appreciated.

Other concert dates and featured musicians are : June 9th, with "Patchwork", from Mountain View, Arkansas, July 14th with Missouri musicians, Jim and Kim Lansford, and August 11th with the "Gallier Brothers" from Springfield, Missouri.

Second Saturday Music is sponsered by the City of Siloam Springs Parks and Recreation Department, Sager Creek Art Center and Whitmore Music of Siloam Springs.

Catharine Kingcome, who has painted many Irish musicians in addition to a picture about Tommy, and is a fiddler herself, says of Tommy : "in my opinion probably the best trad Irish fiddle player there's ever been". For myself, I hear a complexity and detail in his playing that I have not heard elsewhere. In spite of this he is an intensely modest man.

Steve Knightley and Jenna will play our final folking.com @ the Farnham Maltings Spring season of shows this Wednesday 23rd May in the Great Hall at the Farnham Maltings.

Steve Knightley is the song-songwriter that front's the multitalented trio "Show of Hands" who are undoubtedly one of the UK's most popular and talented folk and acoustic artists. Easter Sunday was there penultimate concert of the year when they sold out the Royal Albert Hall. Q Magazine described Knightley as "a prolific and talented songwriter with an astounding voice, 'vast and windswept". His latest song "roots" was used by many organizations on St Georges day to celebrate Englishness and his new solo album "Cruel River" is receiving critical acclaim from many in the music industry. His material has been featured on the Bob Harris, Mike Harding and Mark Radcliff Radio 2 shows and the current solo tour with up and coming West Country singer Jenna is really gathering momentum.

Steve Knightley and Jenna will play the Great Hall at the Farnham Maltings on Wednesday the 23rd of May 2007

Steve and Jenna did a real belter of a performance at the Conford Village Hall on Saturday 28th April. The village hall was packed to the gunnels and we were treated to mix of new songs from Steve's excellent new album Cruel River and Jenna's hotly awaited "Barefoot & Eager". What I loved about the show is the way that the new songs were mixed in with some stripped down SOH favourites.

A fund raising day for Enable Scotland will be held in Montrose on Saturday June 14th.
Amongst the artist appearing will be celebrated singer songwriter Angie Wright who will be peforming songs from her two solo CDs and a few new ones yet unrecorded.
There are two concerts, one in the afternoon and one in the evening.

After winning the Scarborough SeaFest Song for the Sea competition last year I am back by popular demand this year to present the documentary feature film "MAYDAY TUGS OF WAR" in Scarborough on Sunday 20 July at 2.00pm in the Sea Cadets' Hall. This film (which uses my song "THE SHORES OF NORMANDY" about my first trip to sea in 1944 as its theme tune) tells the story of the wartime Rescue Tugs and the men who sailed in them. It also has a couple of very good songs. Anyone interested in maritime history and the story of the men and ships who swaved thousands of lives and millions of tons of shipping, and who also built the Mulberry Harbours in Normandy, should see this film.

hi all

we have Johnny Collins and Graeme Knights at the Star Inn, St Mary in the Marsh, Romney Marsh, Kent, uk. on Friday 20th Febuary at 8.30pm till 11.15pm. they will be supported by local artists.
it's a pub venue, so free to come along.

If you know Johnny and Graeme you will know they are a fantasic evenings entertainment, with songs ranging from folk through maritime and the report between them is second to none, and funny too.
