Subject: Tom Bawcock's Eve (Cornish folk song)?

Hi folks,

I'm doing some research into the Cornish legend of Tom Bawcock, as immortalized in the great children's story _The Mousehole Cat_. Specifically, I want to know if the cat is a modern invention, or whether she's also named in the lyrics for the song _Tom Bawcock's Eve_, which I can't find anywhere on the web.

Can anyone help?

According to the legend on that site, and the song, Tom Bawcock returned from the sea triumphant with "seven sorts of fish" -- interesting. We've shared Christmas Eve or Christmas dinner with another family for about 10 years now, eating at either house, but following their ethnic family traditions for the meal: Italian on Christmas Eve and Slovak on Christmas (or vice versa -- I can't remember!). The Italian tradition requires seven different kinds of seafood to be eaten...

Wasn't this story the legendary origin of stargazy pie?

Just found my tape of Brenda Wooton and John the Fish singing this. I will type it up in a day or 2. I'm involved with a bunch of school kids this week doing Joseph (Tech Coloured Dreamcoat). Having a really good time just wish I had half the energy.
