When Santa got stuck in the Chimney
He began to shout
"You boys and girls won't get any toys
unless you pull me out."
There is shout in my hat
and my beard is all black
and my nose is tickling too
When Santa got stuck in the chimney...
Achoo, Achoo, Achoo.

Almost the same as I remember it:

When Santa got stuck up the chimney
He began to shout
"You girls and boys
Won't get any toys
If you don't pull me out."
My beard is black
There's soot in my sack
My nose is tickling too
When Santa got stuck up the chimney...
Achoo, Achoo, Achoo

WassaiL! V

Second verse
# When Santa got stuck up the chimney
He began to yell
Oh hurry please it's such a squeeze
The reindeer's stuck as well
His head's out there in the cold night air
And Rudolph's nose is blue
When Santa got stuck up the chimney
Atchoo, atchoo, atchoo.

Too many mince pies had expanded his size ,

Love that song, since we had a chimney that needed to be swept every so often - by my nearest and dearest - whose surname happens to be Santer! Owing to a kinky chimney, it had to be swept from the top end rather than below (which, of course, is how all bona fide Santas tackle the job of chimney penetration) So it was usually followed by "Don't jump off the roof, Dad" (which was featured in another thread recently) All this incredible fun was spoiled by our local Council deciding we should go smokeless! Then there's the Bob Rivers comedy song (sung by a young child): "There's something stuck up in the chimney and I don't know what it is, but it's been there all night long..." (...then all week, all month, all year...). I'll hunt up the full lyrics and post them!

Thank each of you for your response, however, the song I am searching for went like this:

Santa got stuck in the chimney cause he was so big and round. He wiggled and he giggled but he couldn't get lose he couldn't move up or down.

I said I would like to find a way to get you down from there. My dad he would know just what to do but he had to go somewhere. I think that he would be mad at you you've got on his Sunday shoes.

Santa yelled down from the chimney oh what am I to do, I've wiggled and wiggled but I couldn't get lose so now I guess it's up to you.

Then I threw a match in the fireplace and I watched the fire start. Santa wiggled and he giggled he tickled and he sneezed and the chimney fall all apart with a boom and the Santa rolled out in the middle of the room and everybody had a Merry Christmas.

This is not complete but a sample of how it goes.

Subject: Lyr Add: SANTA CLAUS GOT STUCK IN MY CHIMNEY
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 29 Dec 10 - 03:17 PM

Here's my transcription from a recording at YouTube:

SANTA CLAUS GOT STUCK IN MY CHIMNEY
(William D. Hardy & Billy Moore, Jr.)
As sung by Ella Fitzgerald. (Words sung by backup singers are in parentheses.)

1. (Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney.
Boo-hoo-hoo-hoo! Boo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
Poor me!)

2. Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney,
Stuck in my chimney, stuck in my chimney.
Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney,
When he came last year. (Poor Santa Claus!)
Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney,
Stuck in my chimney, stuck in my chimney.
Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney.
He won't come back, I fear. (Boo-hoo!)
There he was in the middle of the chimney,
Roly-poly, fat and round.
There he was in the middle of the chimney,
Not quite up and not quite down.
Santa, please come back to my chimney,
Back to my chimney, back to my chimney.
Santa, please come back to my chimney.
You can come back here (Please do)
'Cause Daddy made a brand new chimney
Just for you this year.

3. (Oh, Ella is a little girl who's tryin' to be good.)
Yet I find that things don't always turn out as they should.
(Why, just last Christmas eve she waited up for Santa to drop by)
But I nearly missed him, and here's the reason why:

REPEAT PART 2.

4. (Santa Claus, come on down the chimney. Please come back this year.)

Jimmy Boyd was a child star whose biggest hit was I SAW MOMMY KISSING SANTA CLAUS in 1952. He recorded many more novelty songs.

Here's my transcription from a recording at YouTube:

SANTA GOT STUCK IN THE CHIMNEY
Hy Heath & Fred Rose
As sung by Jimmy Boyd

Santa got stuck in the chimney 'cause he was so big and round.
He wiggled and he waggled and he wobbled and he puffed.
He couldn't go up or down.
Santa got stuck in the chimney and he started in to roar.
He wiggled and he waggled and he wobbled and he puffed.
He guessed he should have used the door.
I said, "I'd like to find a way to get you down from there.
My dad would know just what to do, but he had to go somewhere."
So Santa got stuck in the chimney and he couldn't budge an inch.
He wiggled and he waggled and he wobbled and he puffed.
Oh, I wanted to help but what could I do?
He had to come down from the middle of the flue
So I could have a very merry Christmas.

Santa got stuck in the chimney and his clothes got full of soot.
He wiggled and he waggled and he wobbled and he puffed.
He couldn't move hand or foot.
Santa yelled down through the chimney, "Oh, what am I to do?
I wiggled and I waggled and I didn't get loose,
So now I guess it's up to you."
I said, "You'll have to stay right there till Daddy hears the news.
I think that he'll be mad at you. You've got on his Sunday shoes."
Then I threw a match in the fireplace and I watched the fire start.
Santa wiggled and he giggled and he tickled and he sneezed,
And the chimney fell all apart with a boom,
And Santa rolled out in the middle of the room,
And ev'rybody had a merry Christmas.

Lorne Greene does this with a fake Scandinavian accent, but it might have a touch of Russian, too.

Saint Nicholas came, dancing overhead,
Den yumped nimble down da chimney.
Ah, vhen he saw de dinner table spread,
He had a feast, by Yim'ny.
Fust he ate de goose, den he ate de fish,
Gobbled up de smorgasbord an' ev'ry tasty dish.
When in de morn we tumbled out of bed,
Dere vas Nicholas, old Saint Nicholas,
Shtuck by de belly in de chimney.

From another video at YouTube. This one has a cartoon animation.

SANTA'S STUCK UP IN THE CHIMNEY
Written by Paul Evans & Paul Parnes
Recorded by Paul Evans

1. It was the night before Christmas. Not a mouse was stirring,
Not a sound heard anywhere.
Ah, but the silence was broken when these words were spoken:
"Help! get me out o' here!"

CHORUS: Push! (Ugh!) Tug! (Uh!) Pull! (Ooh!) Shove! (Oh!)
Santa's stuck up in the chim-i-nee.
We gotta push! (Ugh!) Tug! (Uh!) Pull! (Ooh!) Shove! (Oh!)
There'll be no Christmas till we set him free.

2. Last spring he started to diet. Through the summer he stuck by it,
But his appetite was fated to win
Because his wife started bakin' an' Christmas-candy-makin'
Now look at the shape he's in.
We gotta—CHORUS

3. This is becomin' a disaster. If we don't free him faster,
Day will dawn and children ev'rywhere will weep.
The house is full of neighbors tryin'. Dogs are howlin', children cryin'.
Get him out o' here so I can get some sleep.
We gotta—CHORUS
'Cause Santa's stuck up in the chim-i-nee.

From: Jim Dixon
Date: 29 Dec 10 - 07:31 PM

From a 78-rpm record at YouTube:

WHEN SANTA GOT STUCK UP THE CHIMNEY
Written by Jimmy Grafton
As sung by Billy Cotton and his Band, 1953

1. When Santa got stuck up the chimney, he began to shout,
"You girls and boys won't get any toys if you don't pull me out.
My beard is black. There's soot in my sack. My nose is tickling too!"
When Santa got stuck up the chimney, achoo, achoo, achoo!

2. 'Twas on the eve before Christmas day,
When Santa Claus arrived on his sleigh.
Into a chimney he climbed with his sack,
But he was so fat, he couldn't get back.
Oh, what a terrible plight!
He stayed up there all night.

3. When Santa got stuck up the chimney, he began to yell,
"Oh hurry, please. It's all such a squeeze. The reindeer's stuck as well!
His head's up there in the cold night air, and his nose was red; now it's blue."
When Santa got stuck up the chimney, achoo, achoo, achoo!

4. So Rudolph tugged with all his might,
But Santa Claus was stuck very tight.
He wiggled and jiggled then cried with a frown:
"I'll never get up. I'll never get down,
Oh, what a terrible fuss!
We should have come by bus."

REPEAT 1.
Achoo, achoo, achoo!

[There is a bit of spoken patter at the beginning which I omitted.]

From: Jim Dixon
Date: 29 Dec 10 - 08:03 PM

The only video for this at YouTube has some character named Irish Billy lip-synching to this song. I recommend you ignore the visual part.

THE CHIMNEY SONG
Written by Bob Rivers

1. There's something stuck up in the chimney and I don't know what it is,
But it's been there all night long.
Well, I waited up for Santa all Christmas night
But he never came, and it don't seem right
That there's something in the chimney and it doesn't make a sound,
But I wish you Merry Christmas.

2. There's something stuck up in the chimney and I don't know what it is,
But it's been there all week long.
Well, the dog keeps barking up the chimney flue
And we don't know what we're going to do,
'Cause there's something in the chimney and it doesn't move around,
And it's been a week since Christmas.

3. There's something stuck up in the chimney and I don't know what it is,
But it's been there all month long.
Well, it's jammed up tight above the fireplace;
Now the house smells funny, such a big disgrace
That there's something in the chimney and it doesn't talk at all,
And it's been there since last Christmas.

4. There's something stuck up in the chimney and I don't know what it is,
But it's been there all year long.
I'll been waiting up for Santa like I did last year
But my brother says he's already here,
And he's stuck up in the chimney and he doesn't say a word,
And he'll be there every Christmas.

And we'll have him every Christmas

From: Jim Dixon

Here's another song I found on Spotify:

SANTA GOT STUCK IN THE CHIMNEY
As sung by Durwood Haddock on "New Christmas Tunes" (2009)

INTRO: Well, I want to tell you somethin' that you may not believe,
But really it did happen on one Christmas eve.
You may not believe it, but I can promise you
Ev'ry single word I say is true.

1. Santa got stuck in the chimney, an' he just couldn't move.
He wiggled and he squirmed an' he huffed an' he puffed.
He couldn't come down an' he couldn't go up.
All of us little children were more than a little confused.
We wondered why old Santa Claus was a-wearin' Daddy's shoes.

2. Santa got stuck in the chimney; he didn't know what to do.
He turned an' squirmed against the bricks,
And he realized he was in a fix.
We heard him call to Mama: "You gotta get me out o' here."
None of us kids could figure out why he kept callin' Mama "dear."

3. Santa got stuck in the chimney; my mama called nine-one-one.
The firemen scrambled to the top o' the house.
It must 'a' been a' hour 'fore they got him out.
Next day when he came to breakfast, Daddy hobbled on one foot,
And none of us kids could understand why his face was covered with soot.

[Repeat verses 1 and 2 and fade.]

Another discovery from Spotify:

STUCK IN THE CHIMNEY
As sung by The Surf Boys on the various-artists album "Santa's Vintage Xmas & Holiday Playlist" (2011)

1. Woke up this mornin' an' what did I hear?
A sound like sleigh bells to me.
Jumped out o' bed put my feet on the floor,
Opened the window to see.

2. The snow was fallin' straight out o' the sky.
The moon shone bright as can be.
'Twas then I heard up above somebody cry:
"Somebody help me, if you please.

BRIDGE: "I'm stuck, stuck in the chimney,
An' I need someone to help an' unstick me.
I'm stuck, stuck in the chimney.
Oh, won't you come, come an' rescue me?"

3. I knew in a moment it must be Saint Nick.
We pushed and shoved and he was out in a lick.
I heard him exclaim as he rode out o' sight:
"Merry Christmas to all and goodnight!"

[Repeat bridge and verse 3.]

STUCK IN THE CHIMNEY
As sung by Floyd Huddleston & His Family Singers on "Happy Birthday, Jesus – A Christmas Musical"

[I have omitted some patter at the beginning.]

Old Saint Nicholas,
He looks ridicholas.
What a picholas he's in!

Jumpin' Jiminy!
He's stuck in the chim-i-ney again.
There he goes again.

He looks so full o' stuffin',
Huffin' and a-puffin',
With his fluffy muffin grin.

Jumpin' Jiminy!
He's stuck in the chim-i-ney again.
There he goes again.

When he gets stuck, he's really stuck,
And you're really out o' luck
If you hear him shout
And you don't pull him out.
There won't be
A present underneath the tree
From old Saint Nicholas
When it's icicle-ous
And snowflakes tickle-us the chin.

Jumpin' Jiminy!
He's stuck in the chim-i-ney again.
There he goes again.

Jumpin' Jiminy!
He's stuck in the chim-i-ney again.
There he goes again.

Subject: Lyr Add: SANTA GOT STUCK IN THE CHIMNEY FLUE
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 22 Apr 13 - 12:15 AM

SANTA GOT STUCK IN THE CHIMNEY FLUE
As sung by Dave Rudolf on "Completely Cracked Christmas"

1. Christmas comes but once a year
When all men fill with joy and cheer,
But it brings me just nervous tics
When I think of that old Saint Nick
'Cause when he came last Christmas Eve,
That's when the hell began for me.
He must have put on lots of weight,
'Cause he stuck up in our chimney grate.

CHORUS: Santa got stuck in the chimney flue.
Santa got stuck; we don't know what to do.
Now that jolly red face is turnin' blue,
'Cause Santa got stuck in the flue.
Santa got stuck in the chimney flue.
Santa got stuck; we don't know what to do.
He must have ate a lot 'cause he certainly grew.
Santa got stuck in the flue.

2. Now we've cut down his intake of food.
We dropped Jane Fonda tapes to view.
When stuck up there, he really tries,
But it's awful hard to aerobicize,
And birds who fly by drop their gifts.
Now the poor old guy is covered with it.
He's gettin' bored though he don't complain.
He's countin' bricks and goin' insane.

CHORUS

3. Now the neighbors they are all upset,
'Cause the Christmas decks* are still up yet.
They think the reindeers and the sleigh
Should be off our roof now that it is May,
And when next Christmas rolls around,
And Santa's nowhere to be found,
I can face those kids' pathetic frowns.
I'll have to tear that chimney down.

CHORUS TWICE

Santa got stuck in the flue.

From: Jim Dixon

SANTA GOT STUCK!
As sung by Anna Moo on "Mooey Christmas"

1. Up on the housetop, reindeer pause.
Out jumps good old Santa Claus,
Down through the chimney with lots o' toys,
All for the little ones' Christmas joys.

Except...

CHORUS: Santa got stuck.
Whoa! Santa got stuck,
'Cause he ate too much o' that Thanksgivin' dinner.
Yeah, Santa got stuck.
Oh, Santa got stuck.
If you eat too much, you can't thinner.

2. Well, the kids woke up early Christmas day.
They saw that nobody'd eaten those cookies on the tray,
And then they heard a noise in the fireplace.
They saw two boots danglin' but nobody's face.

Yeah...CHORUS

3. Now they said: "Santa, is that you?"
They heard a "Ho-ho-ho!" then a "Boo-hoo-hoo!
Would you grab my legs and pull me down?
I got a million presents to get around town."

Yeah...CHORUS

4. So they pulled him down on the count o' three:
One! Two! Three!
And he landed on his bottom and he bruised his knee;
But he quickly passed those presents 'round.
He said: "I'll see you next year less forty pounds."

Yeah...CHORUS
