From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler

Found this while looking for Ramblin Sid lytrics, though Joe Offer would like!

I Want to Marry a Lighthouse Keeper
Erika Eigen

I want to marry a lighthouse keeper and keep him company,
I want to marry a lighthouse keeper and live by the side of the sea;
I'll polish his lamp by the light of day
So ships at night can find their way,
I want to marry a lighthouse keeper, won't that be OK?

We'll take walks along the moonlit bay,
Maybe find a treasure too;
I'd love living in a lighthouse: [Gargled] How about you?

I dream of living in a lighthouse, baby, every single day,
I dream of living in a lighthouse, a white one by the bay;
So if you want to make my dreams come true,
Go be a lighthouse keeper, do,
We could live in a lighthouse, a white one by the bay-ay-hay.
Won't that be OK?
Ya-da ta-da-da!

Apparently charted in 1968!

Charted WHERE in 1968, Roger?

Thanks for thinking of me. Hey, you should see our wedding invitations - yup, a picture of a lighthouse on 'em.
We found paper with a very light picture of a lighthouse, and it makes a very nice background.

This song is also on the "Clockwork Orange" soundtrack. Remarkable soundtrack, for a very... interesting movie. Even if you can't take the film, the soundtrack is pretty damned good. Good classical, this song, 'Singing in the Rain', some interesting early synth works... I'm personally partial to the synthed "Ode to Joy"

There's another movie that this song is in... sorta played in the background from time to time on a scrtchy AM radio... but it escapes me for now...

Anybody else got it?

"I want to marry a lighthouse keeper" just surfaced on an ad on ITV3 Uk digital channel. As usual I didn't get to the tv in time to record it or identify who the advert was for. Must have missed this in '68. And I must get round to watching "Clockwork Orange" seriously (rather than letting it play in the background while I try to avoid eye contact).

"I Wanna Marry a Lighthouse Keeper"
Was on an album by an obscure (but had at least 2 albums out, which I bought) called "Jim Kweskin's Jug Band". Sorry I can't remember the titles of the albums, or which one that track was on.

I've got to eat my words. It was, in fact, a girl called Erica Eiglen.
My sincere apologies for being misleading!
Buut Jim Kweskin WAS fun!!

Jim Kweskin Jug Band Discography

I Want to Marry a Lighthouse Keeper/"I Wanna Marry a Lighthouse Keeper" doesn't appear anywhere on this discography, either that or my eyes are playing me up

Damn! I was just about to look through the stack for the Kweskin LP. (I already knew it was Erika Eigen, but the power of suggestion......)

The Malcolm MacDowell website lists two versions. one from Eigen's Sunforest group, the other specially adapted for the Clockwork Orange soundtrack.

And maybe I will hunt out the Kweskin album anyway ( but tomorrow, too late tonight).

I have just started playing the ukulele and I am a keen sailor - so this song is ideal - both nautical and funny.

Does anyone know the chords ? Or where I can find them ?

I will keep a lookout for your replies.

Thanks

Jim

b) The singer is hetrosexual:-)

You can hear I WANT TO MARRY A LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER accompanied by still images from "A Clockwork Orange" at YouTube.

The lyrics are exactly as posted above.

I am convinced this is the same tune as 'Whistlin Rufus' as recorded by Chris barber in the late 50's. Anyone else think so?

Thank you very much weelittledrummer and dave.

Yes, 'keep him company' does seem to suggest a male lighthouse keeper, but I thought I could change it to 'her company' without too many musical problems.

I have considered 'I want to marry a lighthouse keeperess' or 'lighthouse keeperette' but I think the song is funny enough as it is.
