Subject: Lyr A: I WANT TO MARRY A LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER (Eigen) From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 29 Nov 01 - 05:29 AM Found this while looking for Ramblin Sid lyrics, though Joe Offer would like it! I WANT TO MARRY A LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER Erika Eigen I want to marry a lighthouse keeper and keep him company. I want to marry a lighthouse keeper and live by the side of the sea. I'll polish his lamp by the light of day So ships at night can find their way. I want to marry a lighthouse keeper; won't that be OK? We'll take walks along the moonlit bay; maybe find a treasure too. I'd love living in a lighthouse; [gargled:] how about you? I dream of living in a lighthouse, baby, every single day, I dream of living in a lighthouse, a white one by the bay; So if you want to make my dreams come true, Go be a lighthouse keeper, do! We could live in a lighthouse, a white one by the bay-ay-hay. Won't that be OK? Ya-da ta-da-da! Apparently charted in 1968! RtS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w042l9rKpzU |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I want to marry a lighthouse keeper From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Nov 01 - 01:50 AM Charted WHERE in 1968, Roger? Thanks for thinking of me. Hey, you should see our wedding invitations - yup, a picture of a lighthouse on 'em. We found paper with a very light picture of a lighthouse, and it makes a very nice background. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I want to marry a lighthouse keeper From: SeanM Date: 30 Nov 01 - 02:14 AM This song is also on the "Clockwork Orange" soundtrack. Remarkable soundtrack, for a very... interesting movie. Even if you can't take the film, the soundtrack is pretty damned good. Good classical, this song, 'Singing in the Rain', some interesting early synth works... I'm personally partial to the synthed "Ode to Joy" M |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I want to marry a lighthouse keeper From: Clinton Hammond Date: 30 Nov 01 - 03:51 AM There's another movie that this song is in... sorta played in the background from time to time on a scrtchy AM radio... but it escapes me for now... Anybody else got it? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I want to marry a lighthouse keeper From: Ross Campbell Date: 20 Mar 08 - 12:30 PM "I want to marry a lighthouse keeper" just surfaced on an ad on ITV3 Uk digital channel. As usual I didn't get to the tv in time to record it or identify who the advert was for. Must have missed this in '68. And I must get round to watching "Clockwork Orange" seriously (rather than letting it play in the background while I try to avoid eye contact). Ross |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I Want to Marry a Lighthouse Keeper From: Ross Campbell Date: 22 Mar 08 - 10:24 PM Damn! I was just about to look through the stack for the Kweskin LP. (I already knew it was Erika Eigen, but the power of suggestion......) The Malcolm MacDowell website lists two versions. one from Eigen's Sunforest group, the other specially adapted for the Clockwork Orange soundtrack. And maybe I will hunt out the Kweskin album anyway ( but tomorrow, too late tonight). Ross |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I Want to Marry a Lighthouse Keeper From: GUEST,JimH Date: 27 Mar 08 - 11:46 AM I have just started playing the ukulele and I am a keen sailor - so this song is ideal - both nautical and funny. Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I Want to Marry a Lighthouse Keeper From: GUEST Date: 30 Mar 08 - 03:25 PM I am convinced this is the same tune as 'Whistlin Rufus' as recorded by Chris barber in the late 50's. Anyone else think so? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I Want to Marry a Lighthouse Keeper From: GUEST,JimH Date: 01 Apr 08 - 08:03 AM Thank you very much weelittledrummer and dave. Yes, 'keep him company' does seem to suggest a male lighthouse keeper, but I thought I could change it to 'her company' without too many musical problems. I have considered 'I want to marry a lighthouse keeperess' or 'lighthouse keeperette' but I think the song is funny enough as it is. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I Want to Marry a Lighthouse Keeper From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Jul 23 - 12:14 PM ASCAP says I WANT TO MARRY A LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER was written by Erica (note spelling) Eigen. It also credits her (with the same spelling) for 3 other songs. IMDb says Erika (note different spelling) Eigen wrote and performed it in “A Clockwork Orange.” It doesn’t list her for anything else. I’m going with “Erica.” I just spent too much time researching this song and transcribing it for the thread Songs about lighthouses, only to find it had already been posted here. When will I ever learn? The definitive (I suppose) recording can be found on the soundtrack album of “A Clockwork Orange” (1971) and can be heard on YouTube. |
