Why do I have a headless Jesus????

She don't care if she gets the sneezes,
Sinsull got a headless Jesus
Layin in the garden all the while.
She gets a cold, she know's just what'll
take away that phlegm and snottle
And He'll replace it with a smile!

Sorry... it's early and I've not had much sleep.

I have not bought a breadmaker nor have I been influenced by Mudcat. It is just coincidence that I now live in Maine in a little Cape Cod vs. a money pit apartment in an Historic District in NYC. And who are these people who wander in and take over my bathroom and bedrooms? Mudcatters you say???

And why does that woman who talks funny keep showing up at my door with ugly bric-a-brac? And who left that F**kin' big trailor in my driveway? And by the way who left 15 pounds of gummy candy in my living room? And why does that strange little man from England keep calling here at odd hours? And why is there an inflatable anatomically correct sheep in my living room?

Lobster boil??? I don't eat the nasty things. And don't drop the shells down the headless Jesus! Why do I have a headless Jesus????

I used to be a NY sophisticate who attended the ballet and opera three nights a week when I was in town. Now I house inflatable mooses, religious hideobilia and wandering musicians from all over the world.

No - Mudcat has had absolutely no influence on my life.

I'm sure I would have opened my home and exposed my children to anuanl hordes of traveling musicains I've never met before if I had never come to Mudcat.

And my wonderful collection of video memories would have developed even if I had never met Mudcatter's in them....

And the connections around the world, and across the country, the trips and the conversations scattered between the music.....

No there's no influence at all.....

No influence at all. Even without the Mudcat I'm sure that I would have ended up marrying a foreigner and moving 3,000 miles from the place I called home.

I am absolutely sure that I would have come across my 'evil twin' and spent many happy hours looking for grotesque presents to give to our friends.

It would just have taken a lot longer............

nor have I, Eb.. ....we've always had conversations about the adventures and wisdom of folks we've never met, the mere mention of whose names result in quizical looks from friends, followed by their response, in unison....."oh....mudcat....".

And yes, I've always had the dream that I answer the knock at the front door to see that Spaw and katlaughing have arrived for lunch!

And standing in line at the checkout counter, I've always chuckled at the thought of the "Wes Ginny Slide Rule."

And I've always stayed up way too late, chatting with friends on the other side of the world.....nope, nothing new here....

Well, I also must say that the Mudcat has had absolutely no influence on me. Other than having loads of CDs in my house, some of whose artists I have never met. Oh, and other than finding myself quoting a bit of wisdom or arcane knowledge to friends of mine who, strangely, have all become familiar with Mudcat, the name. Oh, and other than finding myself worrying about certain individuals whom I have not met in meat space. Or being excited about a new adventure for someone whom I have not met. And other than knowing where to go when I need a question answered, whether it involves lyrics to a song I just heard or for advice on how to organize and run a folk club or maybe a computer related problem.

So I would say that no, I have not been influenced by Mudcat.

Well, it's becoming abundantly clear that NO ONE has EVER been influenced by Mudcat Cafe. No one. Nadie. Zilch.

It makes you wonder why we continue on...

Well, at least it allows us all to rave on about any subject of our choice, exposing most of our own character flaws blatantly in the process, and drawing fire from anonymous GUESTS whom we will never meet, but would probably get along with fine in real life if we were not encountering them on this forum...

...without carrying an ounce of responsibility for any of it, because it influences no one.

Gosh. Pretty cool, eh? :-) I think I'll go walk the guinea pig.

Seems people would post , ask , research , argue , fight , cry , call for help , help when called and buy the occasional breadmaker and meat smoker , Guitar , kapo , capo , strings , kittens (did I say Kittens...see Manchester Mucat meets) all without the influence of Mudcat.....yer may as well close it Max....the ungrateful so n' so's don't know when they are blessed.

Just trying to think of a couple of recent Mudcat related ones - not necessarily directly from the forum but certainly through people that I've only come across because of MC...

I tried to cut a bit of lapis lazuli and got some jasper as a result of comments from Don Mexeiner - I'll never be a crafsman by any stretch of the imagination but its fun trying with stones.

Used Sygate to internet share on Justa Picka's reccommendation and am very happy with the software.

Seen lots of recipies I want to sample...

The general knowledge base (I mean not just music) here is pretty impressive...

Well Lin....regarding the spud...............

Mick had been away for a few weeks and had departed after losing several wrestling matches in the Tavern JellO pit to Koko the gorilla who was warm for his form. Upon his return, the question was asked, "So what's a Big Mick?" and in a thread entitled "Big Mick's Back" or something like that, I posted this regarding Mick, and it went downhill from there. I think the culmination of this particular running joke was when annamil did me a favor and when Mick was up frot at the Getaway, walked up, introduced herself, and said she had a gift from Spaw.....and gave him a spud.

Contrary to all rumors, I did NOT buy my very own English concertina because of Mudcat discussions. Nor have I actually had the nerve to play it in public because of Mudcat encouragement.

I do NOT spend hours searching for and transcribing esoteric songs so Dick Greenhaus can add them to the DigiTrad.

I have NOT found out an incredible amount of information about almost any subject under the sun, from points of view varying all over the world, by reading the 'Cat.

I have NOT been introduced to music and musicians I would never have found otherwise...

I have NOT spent a fortune on Kleenex with which to clean my keyboard, necessitated by snorting coffee/tea/soda pop/booze (Ow!) through my nose while reading the latest adventures of Cletus, Paw, and Reg, Reg, and Reg.

I have NEVER spent an inordinate amount of time wondering how the rumor about Big Mick and spuds originated.

And I have NEVER, EVER bought either a bread machine OR a meat smoker because of advice in this forum!

So there.

Just thought: I should have given the website (http://news.cis.dfn.de/) for that newsserver. I know over here there are a few of us experiencing missing posts with both Freeserve and BTInternet and also that there may be some people who would like to use usenet but whose ISPs do not carry newsservers and like me don't get on with web based systems like Google's (formerly deja-news).

I'm never influnced by ideas I read anywhere on open resources.

The last bit of information I read when I was just browsing a thread (rather than seeking info) but completley ignored/ wasn't swayed by cropped up on uk.music.folk on Sat or Sun when someone suggested a free newserver for those of us who have problems with unreliable newsservers. I of course discovered and resigtered with news.cis.dfn.de completely as a result of my own investigations...

personally I always make a point of travelling into the centre of Sydney to walk into hotel lobbies and meet up with strange men I have never met before (don't take the "strange" bit personally TerryK).......

and I often ring up complete strangers and announce "you don't know me, but I'm alison off the computer!!"

and I spend a lot of time convincing normally sane adults to take their clothes off and pose nude for me.....

I also have this weird habit of offering my home to complete strangers who happen to be passing through Sydney.......

I am not now and never have been influenced by the Mudcat.... I frequently drive 300 miles to smoke other peoples cigarettes, write strange songs and sing them, take pictures of my nekkid self singing, acquire cats, write naughty limericks, do requests (but not yours GUEST) and hug total strangers that I've known for 2 years as a different name (and on occasions different sex!)....... Welp, let me just say I will never own a bread machine. Regardless of how much you touters tout. I thnk they're cheating. I make bread every weekend, enough to last me the week. I get cranky if I don't get to knead a couple of loaves a week. But then, I live alone.

I own no smoker. I will never buy a smoker. However, if I ever hook up with another nice gentleman, I will expect this to be part of the dowry he brings to the match. I will bring apple wood. I have an orchard full of it.

AND ... I would have two guitars now (2!!!) even though I can't really play them, whether or not I had encountered Mudcat. I would have pressed through having my fingertips feel like hamburger meat -- a point at which I've stopped several times in my life previously -- regardless. I would have learned 50 or so songs in the past couple of years all by my lonesome. I would have spent HUNDREDS of FECKIN'DOLLARS ordering CDs online so I could hear the artists other musicians love, regardless. I would be comfortable going to jams with complete strangers anyway. And I would have met dozens of new music friends no matter what. I would have finally conquered my pernicious fear of singing in front of other people, and would have developed the confidence to actually bring out my guitar and plunk meaningfuly in the presence of people who really do play guitars whether Mudcat ever wriggled its way into my heart. And this global consciousness I have, informed by opinions from very opinionated music lovers all over the world would have spontaneously combusted, no matter what.

So, no. Really, Mudcat hasn't made much of a difference in my life.

God, I love you dopes.

Must say, if I had any excess money, I might buy a breadmaker. Maybe even because of mudcat.

But I have never allowed it to influence me in any *other* way. No, I don't sing at least 3 songs we found in it's archives. No, I have not used lyrics found in threads here. No, I have not gained any knowledge in any other area from threads here either.

Don't stand too near me right now. I anticipate a sudden electrical storm at any moment.
