Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bayberry Candles (Irish Christmas song?) From: cnd Date: 27 Mar 20 - 03:14 PM Given the title and the comment by T Bouton, this song is almost certainly "Bayberry Candles" by Lee Allman and Tex Satterwhite. You can buy the score here for only 2 pounds! Right now the only library it's publicly listed at is The British Library, St. Pancras. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bayberry Candles (Irish Christmas song?) From: GUEST,Julia L Date: 24 Dec 17 - 08:02 PM Bayberries are a shrub that grows wild along the New England shoreline and have berries which form a waxy coating in the fall. The colonists gathered them to make candles which have a distinctive fragrance, probably useful as an insect repellent. I have never heard of them in an Irish context. best- Julia |

Subject: RE: Req: Irish Ballad/Christmas Song -Bayberry Candles From: Shaneo Date: 26 Oct 07 - 04:47 PM This Bayberry candle comes from a friend. So on New Years Eve burn it down to the end. Because a Bayberry candle burned to its socket, brings good luck, good health and wealth to your pocket. |

How disapopinting that there was not reply. I absolutely love the fragrance of real bayberry candles. Maryanne |
Subject: IRISH BALLAD? CHRISTMAS SONG-Bayberry Candles From: GUEST,TINA Date: 13 Dec 01 - 02:23 PM I have been trying to find the lyrics to an old song from school. I thought it was called "Bayberry Candles". Part of the song goes,
and the firelight dances on the wall, I dream of an old Irish custom; burning bayberry candles for Christmas perfume." |
