Subject: RE: I'm gettin nuttin for Christmas From: Sorcha Date: 17 Dec 01 - 12:03 AM Sorry, but I usually get nuttin' for Christmas. BD, Mother's Day also. If I really want something, I have to go pick it out and pay for it too. Othwerwise, I will get somethng like a pot holder or a muffin tin. It may sound like sour grapes, but after 28 years of marriage and 22 years of motherhood, they might just be able to know what I want.........and it is NOT a kitchen appliance so I can cook more stuff for them. It is also NOT a "laundry aid".....(I will admit I am difficult to buy for--no kitchen stuff, no jewelry, no "dead flowers", no Dust Catchers,----see what I mean?) Live animals are OK, but we are up to our limit on those. "Gift Certificates" to empty the dishwasher, clean up the dog poop from the yard, carry out the garbage, mow the yard, do the laundry, etc. would be just fantastic----but they don't think of those things.
I can just see it---"Mom, I promise faithfully to do all the laundry for the next year......"
Yea, right. Instead, they get me pot holders so I can cook for them.........and yes, I have asked. They laff and think it is a Great Joke. I have "resigned" more than once---to the point that I couldn't stand it........so I started in again. Best present I ever got was from a friend who went to Ireland and brought me back a large pence made into a keychain..........

Subject: RE: I'm gettin nuttin for Christmas From: rangeroger Date: 17 Dec 01 - 01:23 AM I just heard this song for the first time today.Sung by a 7 year old boy at a Christmas presentation put on by the Sixth Street Melodrama players in Wallace,Idaho. The expressions the kid used during his singing of the song were priceless. One of those performances where I wanted a video camera. rr |
Subject: Lyr Add: NUTTIN' FOR CHRISTMAS (Tepper/Bennett) From: Genie Date: 17 Dec 01 - 03:28 PM NUTTIN' FOR CHRISTMAS (S. Tepper, R. Bennett ©. 1955) CHORUS: Oh, I'm gettin' nuttin' for Christmas. Mommy and Daddy are mad. I'm getting nuttin' for Christmas, 'Cause I ain't been nuttin' but bad. I broke my bat on Johnny's head. Somebody snitched on me. I hid a frog in sister's bed. Somebody snitched on me. I spilled some ink on Mommy's rug. I made Tommy eat a bug. Bought some gum with a penny slug. Somebody snitched on me. CHORUS I put a tack on teacher's chair. Somebody snitched on me. I tied a knot in Susie's hair. Somebody snitched on me. I did a dance on Mommy's plants, Climbed a tree and tore my pants, Filled the sugar bowl with ants. Somebody snitched on me. CHORUS I won't be seeing Santa Claus. Somebody snitched on me. He won't come visit me because Somebody snitched on me. Next year I'll be going straight. Next year I'll be good--just wait! I'd start now, but it's too late. Somebody snitched on me. So you better be good whatever you do 'Cause if you're bad, I'm warning you, You'll get nuttin' for Christmas. |

Subject: RE: I'm gettin nuttin for Christmas From: Jim Dixon Date: 09 Nov 03 - 01:20 PM The correct title of the above-posted song is NUTTIN' FOR CHRISTMAS, and it was written by Sid Tepper and Roy C. Bennett. It was first recorded in 1955 by Art Mooney & His Orchestra, with vocalist Barry Gordon—a 7-year-old one-hit wonder who had first appeared on Ted Mack's Amateur Hour. It has also been recorded by the Fontane Sisters, Stan Freberg, Spike Jones, Rosie O'Donnell, and others. A couple of Dr. Demento anthologies include the version by Stan Freberg. This info comes from AMG - All Music Guide. I can't tell whose voice you hear at the site LJC linked to. The version that Homer & Jethro recorded has different lyrics. It goes: First line of verse: "Johnny is a little brat. I'm gonna tan his hide." First line of chorus: "He's gettin' nuttin' for Christmas." I would be thankful if someone would post H&J's complete lyrics. I have been unable to find them online. |

Subject: RE: I'm gettin nuttin for Christmas From: PoppaGator Date: 07 Mar 05 - 10:39 AM I always heard it as: I AIN'T gettin' nuttin' for Christmas Perhaps that was an editorial embellishment on the part of one of my parents (even though they stringly discouraged use of the word "ain't" in real life). Folk process.... |
Subject: RE: I'm gettin nuttin for Christmas From: Long Firm Freddie Date: 08 Mar 05 - 02:15 AM There are four different wav versions of Nuttin' for Christmas here. They are by Barry Gordon, the Fontane Sisters, Homer & Jethro and Stan Freberg The site, SoundAmerica.com, also has a couple of songs in the spoof section by a certain Mr Shatner... Enjoy! LFF |
Subject: RE: I'm gettin nuttin for Christmas From: Cool Beans Date: 08 Mar 05 - 02:59 PM Child singer Barry Gordon went on to an acting career, most notably in the Broadway and film versions of "A Thousand Clowns" as a kid, and then to many guest TV appearances as an adult. I believe he was also president of the Screen Actors Guild for a time. He'd be in his mid-50s now. Alvin and the Chipmunks recorded "We're Gettin' Nuttin' For Christmas." The classics never die. |
Subject: RE: I'm gettin nuttin for Christmas From: Marion Date: 08 Mar 05 - 07:46 PM I first heard this song done in call-and-answer form by twin boys; when one sang, "I broke my bat on Johnny's head..." the other would say "Somebody snitched on me". And they took turns as to who was calling and who was answering. It was rather clever. I wonder if there are any songs that have been specifically written to be performed by twins? Marion |
Subject: Lyr Add: NUTTIN' FOR CHRISTMAS (Homer & Jethro) From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 09 Mar 05 - 10:24 PM NUTTIN' FOR CHRISTMAS As recorded by Homer & Jethro on RCA Victor 20-6322, 1955.
Johnny is a little brat,
CHORUS: Oh, he's a-gittin' nuttin' for Christmas!
One night I took him out to dine, [mandolin break]
I sat Johnny on my knees,
So you better be good whatever you do, |

Subject: RE: Lyr ADD: (I'm Gettin') Nuttin' for Christmas From: Lighter Date: 28 Dec 22 - 03:27 PM A song whose existence and Yuletide charm I'd repressed completely for 67 years. Like it never existed. But it does. |
