No Bob, if you are 35 pounds over weight you are considered a Mudcatter, and not only a Mudcatter but a candidate to join a band of lookalikes that includes Mmario, Big Mick, and I forget who the third crony is.

If you look around in the Member Photos section you will find several comfy-looking folkies looking back at you.

Look, lets say you're a rocker playin a small club...20 fans show up. Disaster! empty room, angry promoter, depressed band....

Now when you're a folkie, and 20 people show up...THE ROOM SEEMS FULL! Everyone's happy! Just like an old time country audience but with fewer rhinestones!

Fat Folkies make fine fans.

Cheers

Rick (only 20 pounds overweight..therefore a positively boney folkie)

BOB, I just wanted you to know something. I'm feeling a lot of pain right now over the loss of a dear friend. Looking over the thread titles just now, I couldn't see anything that I wanted to open up and read. Then I saw the title for this thread. I just wanted you to know that I love it and I think it's poetry. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face on this, a very sad day.

So where does this leave me? I'm underweight. Always have been. Yet I am a folkie. What could the explanation be for this extraordinary juxtaposition?

I am reminded of an argument Bob Dylan had with some reporter back in the 60's. He kept insisting that he was not a folk singer and that he played neither folk nor folk rock, although the reporter wanted to talk to him about precisely those subjects. He ended by saying something like: "When I hear the words 'folk music' I think of a room full of fat people sitting around playing guitars."

Looks like nothing much has changed in the last 40 years, eh? :-)

I just checked with "HealthCanada" and it would appear that I'm actually 30-35 pounds over weight. I think they must be joking. Someone six feet tall SHOULD only weigh 178 pounds? That's ridiculous. I stepped on the scale and I'm tipping it at a sylph-like 215. Hell, Mick has a LEG that weighs more than that!

There was a good deal of truth in what I said.

Is your arguement against what I said, or the fact that I couldn't be bothered to give myself a 'nom de plume'?

Curious to know

gratuitous insults and public attempts to embarrass or harass someone who is doing you NO harm reflects a personality with more problems than those you are trying to make fun of.

....if you think that anonymous insults makes YOU look smart & superior, you are VERY sadly mistaken. If you just get off on being arrogant and tasteless,....well, nothing we can say will cure THAT infirmity!

LOL! I'm taking no sides in this latest mudslinging match...but I can't help but laugh about it!

I have just checked the scales and I weigh...127. That's with my shoes and clothes and wallet and change (which probably weigh 5 or 6 pounds). I'm 5' 10" tall. Seems like I must have gained a little weight, anyway, cos I used to weigh around 118. How about that.

I'm still not overweight, though. I would venture to say that CarolC is also not overweight, but we are both folkies...so there ya go.

But remember when some bloke started a thread onthe themes of American being fat it turned into a flame war of sorts, and it suggested it was the most terrible insult.

I can't see much difference between body size and show size. It's just the way you are, some are fat and some are thin, and some can't seem to decide which they are.

Mind 35lbs is a hell of a lot to lug around in a shopping bad. You have to be pretty fit to be comfortably fat.

Geeziz Hawk! 127??? Hell man, my dick weighs 127!!!

Hey Rick....I can't figure the charts either but I know I'm up too damn high. I was at 225 at Niagra and now I'm at 241 (6 pounds down since January 1---I'm in a contest with Hippie Chick).

AND GUEST TURNIP......Lemmee tell ya' something.....We are fat because we can afford to buy tons of food and grow even more! We are Americans dammit and generations of our ancestors have come here and fought and died for the right to fuck-over the rest of the world! We waste more food than most nations produce and we really don't care. We keep our thermostats set at 75 in the winter and 65 in the summer because we can produce and buy more energy than any other ten countries combined! We drive gas-guzzling SUV's, RV's, vans, and high performance sports and luxury cars because our gas is still cheap and even though we bitch about it, we'll keep buying it because we can and because we're Americans and wouldn't be caught dead in some of those pissant little tiny foreign cars. As a matter of fact, all of our foreign imports consume more gas in their American setup than they do in their home country! We're fat and we need some of those big cars and SUV's to be able to get in and drive to the grocery so we can haul back enough food to get our families through a week...except for the parts we throw away...although it would feed half the third world for a month.

Now....I've admitted it! What a load off my mind.....I feel so much better now Guest!!! And you should too because you're right!! Now take this buck and go out and buy a coke to go with that smile and shut the fuck up!!

............fockin' dumbass cocksucker............

Spaw

Hell man, my dick weighs 127!!! Spaw - is that grammes or ounces?

Genetics proves that fatter people survive lean conditions better. All you skinny bits out there wouldn't survive more than 3 months into the winter if you didn't have central heating and thermal vests.... it's the middle of winter and I'm still wandering around in thin shirts and sandals in Britain!!! And I've only had one cold!!

So THHHhhhssssssssssssppppp!! to you Skinny Bints!!

It is my understanding that stress (perhaps caused by bitterness and anger) is a much more common cause of sudden heart attack than being overweight...so, American-hating GUEST, you seem to be in more imminent danger than the jolly and centered folks here who are carrying a few extra pounds...

Funny how the 'health issue' always gets trotted out by those who see overweight people as a good target for their dysfunctional attacks.

I think "Guest" is probably feeling so cranky because s/he's hungry & needs a nice, hearty meal!

NB---neither am I "overweight" by these standards, but wouldn't it cut down the fun in life substantially if you denied yourself the enjoyment of yummy food? Our cultural standards have led us to a place where something like half of all 10 year old girls consider themselves "too fat", and worry about their weight when they should be climbing trees and playing with their friends. This is progress?!

Well....possibly you do....

Are you suggesting that I am insubstantial, Spaw? Well, I don't think that a 127 gram willy is anything to go around boasting about...sounds pretty unimpressive to me.

Anyway, there are advantages to being thin...

If you see someone coming and want to avoid their notice, you just turn sideways, and they will pass by without seeing you.

More thin people can pack into a phone booth, thus setting a higher record for so doing, which is the whole point of the exercise.

Thin people can walk on thin ice without falling through (usually). Ditto for the crust on deep snow.

Thin people can sit on rickety chairs without trepidation.

Thin people can squeeze through small apertures with ease.

Thin people make good hang-glider pilots.

Thin people can handle hot climates much better...which makes me wonder why the hell I was born in Canada! I should've been a Cuban or a Mexican or something like that.

I could go on and on about this, but I don't want to make you feel any more insecure than I know you already do, cos I'm a compassionate, sensitive, and caring guy, so I'm gonna stop right now!
