Can anyone help me with details of this group. It's for a friend in the U.S.I suppose its not right of me to make snap judgements, but from what I can glean they seem to be a sub-Wolfe Tones type of Provo promoters. Would I be correct in this assumption?.

No, they were more People's Democracy types and more socialist leanings. Most of the individuals are still around and still friends and still playing and singing. Later they called themselves People of no property. They've been mentioned before on Mudcat so if you do an archive search you may find more info and selected songs.

Dunno about 'sub-Wolfe Tones' as they actually lived in Norn Iron as opposed to the
Tones wing of bar-stool Republicanism. I assume that thread is about the song
'Shipyard Slips', I doubt you'll find a song the Tones penned that can stand up to
that one.
It's not at all sectarian either, though probably not representative of their work in general.
Someone in a 'Slips' thread said that they were 'aligned' with the INLA
at one point - which is a very dark shade of green indeed. I also seem
to remember Christy Moore mentioning them in his notes on the song 'Our Lord
and Jesse James' in the Christy Moore songbook. The song itself doesn't mince about,
either. Fairly virulently anti-SDLP.

never heard of the band but the title is a quote from the writings of Wolfe Tone, off the top of my head.

The problem is that Philippa linked directly to Shorty, who appears to not be recieving visitors just now. My link is the "internal" one that keeps you on whatever server you are in on. (See Joe, I did learn it!)

As to meself, I passed comment on a thread without looking at it - eejit!
A thread discussing 'Shipyard Slips' written by David Wilde, of 'The Men...'
should be here: . Scroll down and a contributor
transcribes another song by them

Made a hames of that. Here's the thread : Shipyard Slips
'The Men..' are mentioned in the message by Guest, Paul Burke
There's no second song, just his corrections to the song in question.
