Subject: Fungi - Danish? Traditional? What? From: Haruo Date: 27 Jan 02 - 11:42 PM I just posted a song about mushroom-hunting in La Lilandejo. I only know it in Esperanto, but something in the back of my head whispers that it is of Danish origin. Does anybody recognize it (text or tune or both) or know anything about it? The meaning is roughly as follows: 1. In the autumn forest, among the treetrunks I go searching, because now it's 'shroom season! To a merry melody, I put them in my basket With knife and fingernails, O you lovely fungi! In the autumn forest, the flowers have already withered, But the fungi without stinginess shine in colours: White, read, with a hat on a stick, here an umbrella; Some shine golder, oh, what lovely colours. Some taste like an apple, are indeed welcome, But dangerous to humans are the poisonous ones! "Research is of paramount necessity! More important than the color," Said my grandfather, "are their contents." Any information will be gratefully received. Liland

Look out for snowman and the Crash Test Dummy made from giant puffballs. Quack! Geoff the Duck!. |

Subject: RE: Help: Fungi - Danish? Traditional? What? From: OldPossum Date: 11 Aug 02 - 05:24 PM Hi Liland! I have just come across this thread. The tune of this song belongs to a Danish children's song called "I en kælder sort som kul", which means "In a cellar black as coal". The Danish text doesn't mention fungi, but is about some mice that end up getting caught by a cat. Yours, OldPossum (Esperanto is all Greek to me) |
