Hi McGrath:
The other week I dropped off a CD for the folks at Engine 33 Ladder 9, with a few ceile tunes, and both of our versions of Engine 33. It was a good time, as the first bodies of their fellows where being found, as they have at last dug down to the front lobby of the trade center, where folks who were getting out of the building at the last moment are to be found.
Well there was another call on our block yesterday, answered by Engine 33, Ladder 9. Louie, who drives 33 said the fellows listen to the new CD alot and are thankful that their friends are being remembered in England. They also are fond of the way you worked one of the verses into a refrain. So, they send their thanks for your care and efforts.
All the best,
Larry

Thanks for letting me know. I'm more glad than I can say to hear that. I sang it in a pub session in Stony Stratford (Milton Keynes) at the Mudcatters gathering last weekend, and it's still one song you can guarantee the regulars up the end by the bar in any pub will shut up for, by the time it's got properly under way.

And I've been playing your CD with it, which arrived the other day. I love the way you put in the pipes solo at the end (Will ye no come back again), and then finish it off with the tin whistle.

And here is InOBU's song if anyone hasn't seen it yet (with a streaming rm file of me singing it, if you've got Real Audio - which we all need to have, because otherwise we miss out on the Mudcat Radio.)

Thanks McGrath
Will ye no come back again, is often played by the pipe bands at firefighter's funerals over here. I had the honnor to be present at John Tierney's funneral the other week in Staten Island. The car I was in was several cars behind Ladder 9, and the engine that bore his coffin. Folks came out on their porches and the stopped traffic - everyone had the same stricken look as the motorcade passed. His father teaches Gaelic with my friend Daithi. He was burried in a firefighter's section of the graveyard. Most of his row died on the 11th. The grave next to his, a photo of a firefighter, holding his son, was taped to the gravestone. On the photo was written, "Daddy, I turned 6 today and I love you." It is terrible to think of how many children have to go to the grave yard to tell the big moments of their lives to their parents these days, here and in Afganistan.
Peace
Larry
