well, in Wash DC, there is a little group that plays 'mostly' informally who do the song...and several years ago they performed it at some retirement home. After the song was done, one elderly gentleman stood up and claimed HE wrote it! I will see if I can get more info..(that is who it was, and whether they thought he sounded sincere and such..verification of these things is not always easy)

I was pleased to see "We Never Mention Aunt Clara" quoted in the "How many fallen women?" thread -- I haven't seen it elsewhere. I got it from my parents and their Appalachian Mountain Club (New York Chapter) canoeing friends. Digitrad has more verses than I got from them, though!

Anyone have any information (or good speculations) on the origins/age of this song?
