Subject: RE: BS: Music in Spokane From: Ebbie Date: 06 Mar 02 - 12:12 PM "Each country has their own folk music, but the genre usually refers to American and British music that has been passed through the generations by oral tradition. It's simple, acoustic-based music that spins everyday events and common people into mythic status. Many traditional folksongs have no known author, they have simply evolved over the years. " This is from a link at the site Guest/the Gulchero posted. Sounds like they too have had discussions on What is folk? Good luck, KT. Sounds like there's lots of music there. Eb |

Subject: RE: BS: Music in Spokane From: Stilly River Sage Date: 06 Mar 02 - 11:45 PM I've been trying to get the Spokane Folklore Society to take my Dad's name off of their list for over 4 years now. Must be epoxied on there. I've called, emailed, written; their last brochure came over the weekend. I crossed off the address and wrote "Deceased. Return to Sender." It came back to me, my message crossed off, the post office had stamped "Returned for Carrier Endorsement." Whatever in hell that means. If anyone from Spokane Folklore Society reads this thread, please ask your memberhsip person(s) to remove John Dwyer from the list. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Music in Spokane From: GUEST,brinner21 Date: 07 Mar 02 - 01:20 PM There's an Irish session in O'Doherty's Grill once a week. It's a year or so since I was there so I'm not sure of the day. |
Subject: RE: BS: Music in Spokane From: Mark Ross Date: 07 Mar 02 - 10:47 PM There is a great place to hear music on Saturdays called MOTHER GOOSE'S. They treat the audiences and the performers right. I played there in January and it was wonderful. Mark Ross |
Subject: RE: BS: Music in Spokane From: Miken Date: 07 Mar 02 - 11:27 PM Ross, I was there in Feb. while visiting Spokane; nice evening with Rosalie Sorrels. Do you live in Spokane? I get over there several times a year. Mike |
Subject: RE: BS: Music in Spokane From: rangeroger Date: 07 Mar 02 - 11:34 PM Rosalie was in Spokane last month and I missed it? God, I've got to get out more. Or at least read the paper once in a while. rr |

Subject: RE: BS: Music in Spokane From: JenEllen Date: 08 Mar 02 - 12:32 PM KT, Such good news! I checked, and I do have to give a lecture at the gallery the day before, but should be able to swing a visit to Spokane regardless. FYI, you might also check out the online broadcast of Inland Folk at www.nwpr.org (click on classics and music)...Saturdays at 11-1p. They usually do the northwest schedule of events during the hour break at 12. I checked already, and there is no KPBX kids concert that weekend, and that is a real shame, those things are wonderful. Safe Travels, ~Jen |
Subject: RE: BS: Music in Spokane From: GUEST,MAG at work Date: 08 Mar 02 - 12:35 PM Hi Mark Ross; you won't remember me, but I was your chauffeur in Chicago for the Haymarket Centennial -- have you been on the list long? -- MAG |
Subject: RE: BS: Music in Spokane From: Midchuck Date: 08 Mar 02 - 12:38 PM There was an old fellow in Butte Who would frequently go on a toot. He'd proceed to Spokane, And go straight from the train To a house of distinct ill repute. Mark, you aren't the same Mark Ross that recorded "Loafer's Glory" with Utah, are you? If so, I loved it. Peter. |
Subject: RE: BS: Music in Spokane From: rangeroger Date: 09 Mar 02 - 12:26 AM JenEllen, be sure and let me know when you are coming to Spokane. Maybe we can get together. Only an hour's drive for me. rr |
Subject: RE: BS: Music in Spokane From: Bsondahl Date: 09 Mar 02 - 11:12 AM I joined the Spokane Folklore Society, paid for a year and a half, and they haven't put me on their mailing list. Maybe that guy that wants his dad removed should forward it to me. Lately I'm hanging with the Bluegrass people--a nicer group one couldn't find, with a nice informative newsletter as well. I think Spokane is poised for a lively music scene, with lots of nonsmoking, nondrinking venues available (Rocket bakeries, Hastings, The Shop, Mother Goose), to name a few. I've attended both jams listed on the Spokanebluegrass.org webpage, and have been well satisfied. Brad Sondahl http://home.earthlink.net/~bsondahl |

Hi to everybody,if you need to reach me my e-mail is butte17@hotmail.com Mark Ross |
