The Lancaster Maritime Festival now has a WebSite. Billed as "the World's Biggest Gathering of the Finest Sea-Song And Shanty Singers," it may just be that! There are 37 singers / groups including the great Louis Killen and Cyril Tawney.

Takes place over the Easter Weekend.

Although I can't go myself, friends are thinking of it, providing there is a camp site -anybody know if one is available or nearby -tourist information could not tell them.

I'll be there with Linda (Essex Girl), we've found a Caravan Site (CL) a couple of miles outside the town. We couldn't find anything nearer.

How come I've never seen the Boat Band at Lancaster Maritime? I'm sure they sail out of Lancaster (or used to) and you see their name everywhere. I've seen them singing sea songs at several festivals, but never here. Please come!

We went to Maritime Festival a few years back. There was this bloke having a massive argument with his wife behind one of the pubs down at the quayside near where they've built the new bridge. He started hitting her about the head. Someone must have called the police but this man was absolutely crazy, out of control; when the policeman arrived he laid into him with a wooden bat. It was shocking we didn't know what to do. And then the crocodile ate all the sausages. We had a campervan that year and stayed behind an old (glue?) factory on the quayside. We onlt stayed one night but if you don't mind having no facilities I shouldn't imagine you'll have any problems there (there were a few doing the same as us).

Lancaster is a four day festival (Fri - Mon). On Friday and Saturday the parking restrictions on the quayside make campervanning difficult but Sunday and Monday are no problem -- you can park anywhere.

GUEST JD: thanks for comments some days ago (I play with the Boat band). Do I know you? We certainly did start our voyaging in Lancaster (or just down the Lune at Glasson Dock to be precise). Given our Lancaster connections and the fact that we sing seasongs ( and play two oldtunes called the Lancaster Hornpipe) we wouldof course love to play at the Maritime Fetival. In fact we specialise in playing maritime festivals. But alas we are musicians, we dont issue the invites to festivals! perhaps you could put in a word for us with the management? We keep sending them proposals, several times over the years, but alas with no results. You could always slip out of Lancaster on Saturday afternoon and see us at the Kendal Brewery. And we will be playing in Glasson in september
