Subject: Giutars From: GUEST,John from Hull Date: 13 Mar 02 - 11:16 PM What is the best guitar to buy? (apart from Docherty)! |
Subject: RE: Giutars From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Mar 02 - 11:26 PM The one you like for the style you play that you can afford and sounds best to you. Beyond that, see the 17 bezillion past threads on guitars and guitar buying. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Giutars From: GUEST Date: 13 Mar 02 - 11:32 PM Thanks Spaw, how many is a bezilllion it souns like a lot! |
Subject: RE: Giutars From: GUEST Date: 13 Mar 02 - 11:42 PM I spelled guitars wrong. |
Subject: RE: Giutars From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Mar 02 - 11:52 PM Enter guitar in the filter box and set the refresh for say 3 years and see what you get. Some don't have guitar in the thread title but if you go through some of the many you find there, you'll find links to most of the others. Good brands with inexpensive models: Martin, Larrivee, Guild, Yamaha, Seagull, Takemine(Jasmine), Taylor, Alvarez, Epiphone...Also check out Blue Ridge Guitars...lotsa' bang for the buck, really excellent. Subject: RE: Giutars From: GUEST Date: 14 Mar 02 - 12:00 AM Thanks spaw what sort of guitar have yoiu got/ |
Subject: RE: Giutars From: Bobert Date: 14 Mar 02 - 04:11 PM Used! In general, they sound better and play better but it sounds like you may not be real experienced so find someone who has played for a while to help you. And don't think that all Martins are better than all Epiphones just 'cause it says C.F. Martin on it. Pawn shops, funky guitar shops (non mall) that have used guitars in the funky area of your closest city, and personal ads are good sources. If this is your first, I'd shy away from ebay. You can probably find a copy of Vintage Guitar someplace and it is good for comparision purposes. Plus you might find a shop, or better yet a show, close to you... Good luck |
Subject: RE: Giutars From: Dave the Gnome Date: 14 Mar 02 - 04:19 PM The best guitar to buy just happens to be the one I have for sale at the moment... And just for you I'll make a special deal;-) Cheers Dave the Gnome |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: GUEST,Lynn Koch Date: 14 Mar 02 - 10:06 PM Check out LaDue Guitars, a small builder in Central NY. His own design, kinda peculiar looking at first, but a great sound. And he uses local hardwoods wherever possible. Can't locate his website right now... |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: 53 Date: 14 Mar 02 - 10:44 PM Try a Taylor and I think you'll like it. Relax Spaw, new threads are always nice and sometimes people like a change. |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 14 Mar 02 - 10:50 PM Thanks Bob. |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: 53 Date: 14 Mar 02 - 11:09 PM You are very welcome John. |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: mooman Date: 15 Mar 02 - 11:17 AM 'Spaw forgot to mention Lakewood also, for which he will be severely reprimanded! They do a good cheap model (D-1 and M-1) as well as their more expensive models. Happy hunting, mooman (Mudcat's resident Lakewood expert!) |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: Midchuck Date: 15 Mar 02 - 11:52 AM I'm totally convinced that the Martin 000-15S is the best instrument, dollar for dollar, now on the market. But I'll probably have a new opinion in a few weeks. Peter. |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: 53 Date: 15 Mar 02 - 06:13 PM I'm thinking about a Martin also, but I'll have to come up with some good ole spending cabbage. |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: catspaw49 Date: 15 Mar 02 - 06:23 PM Well Peter the 000-15 sure is getting great reviews from everyone who has one both here at the 'Cat and elsewhere.......Here's a pic and some info...CLICK Bob, I'm certainly not upset and when I backlink info or suggest that folks read what's been said before, it's not to stop a current thread because many new people and old folks alike will have something they might want to add. But I do it because many of our folks like myself have said a ton in the past and many of us will not add on anymore at this point in time. Sometimes we do, like Midchuck, but sometimes we don't. So why not take from the old as well as the new and get as much info as possible? Rick, Mooh, JP, Fortunato, mooman, and a couple of dozen others may not always contribute to a new thread like this one because they feel they've said it before....and for that reason I backlink info or suggest that the poster read some past threads. The info these people have put in in the past is still valuable and repeating it on a new thread generally isn't done. Midchusk always has good info, but he doesn't alwasy contribute to every guitar thread unless he has something new to add. And mooman......I knelt at the foot of The Little Pissant and he whizzed all over me.........Lakewood is certainly another fine choice and probably have good availability in England where John is. Subject: RE: Guitars From: michaelr Date: 15 Mar 02 - 08:13 PM I've got three words for you: LOWDENS RULE! Michael |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: 53 Date: 15 Mar 02 - 09:04 PM I've never played a Lowden, are thy any good? |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: michaelr Date: 15 Mar 02 - 11:15 PM Lowden players - please tell Bob! |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Mar 02 - 12:22 AM Well, I hate to mention it, but there are several Lowden players around here and quite a few posts talking about Lowdens so if BOB would enter the word Lowden in the supersearch he could do just that Michael! Spaw |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: RichM Date: 16 Mar 02 - 12:53 AM I've played and heard many lowdens, and I don't think they're worth their ridiculous prices. I have heard people make great music on some of them. Santa Cruz, Beneteau, and some Martins are better. Rich McCarthy |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: C-flat Date: 16 Mar 02 - 03:47 AM There's no "better" or "best" when you reach for the top-end instruments, only opinions! Lowden,Santa cruz,Collings,Martin,Taylor,etc.etc. I would have one of each if I could! |

Subject: RE: Guitars From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 24 Mar 02 - 05:36 AM Well i have just bought my first guitar, it is a Washburn-D10.It is second hand but in very good condition (it looks like new) I saw it avertised in the local paper, i went to see it and it looked good so I bought it straight away, I was lucky because the man was only selling it because he is moving to Saudi Arabia, he only bought it a few weeks ago but he just got offered a new job, I got the guitar, a gig bag and an electric tuner (Korg) for 80 pounds. It looks really nice but now i just have to learn how to play it! |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: C-flat Date: 24 Mar 02 - 05:54 AM Congratulations on your first guitar! It sounds like a bargain! |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: 53 Date: 24 Mar 02 - 09:23 PM Go John. You'll be a Hell of a player. |
Subject: RE: Guitars From: 53 Date: 25 Mar 02 - 10:58 AM Guitars can cause an addiction. Watch out. |
