There's a special feature coming up this Saturday 20th April 2002 at 1.30pm on BBC Radio Shropshire 96FM about the English rose. Suggested by the singer June Tabor the programme is a brief look at the rose, its origins, its history and the folklore and myths surrounding it. June's recent CD Rosa Mundi has provided the music, from standards such as Roses in Picardy through to traditional English folk songs. The programme is a celebration of one of our most beautiful flowers, giving a glimpse into its history, its poetry … and even its pests. Genevieve Tudor, who produced the programme, was ably assisted by Michael Marriot, who works with champion Shropshire Rose grower, David Austin. The story of the English rose will be broadcast on Saturday at 1.30pm and again on Wednesday at 6.30pm. As those of you that have been kind enough to listen to us on Sunday Folk will know, BBC Radio Shropshire can be heard on line from their web site. The time - 1:30 PM - is BST, or GMT + 1 hour.
