From BBC Radio Shropshire

There's a repeat of the special feature originally broadcast Saturday 20th April on BBC Radio Shropshire about the English rose.
You can hear it again this evening (Wednesday 24th April at 6:30 PM.)
Suggested by the singer June Tabor the programme is a brief look at the rose, its origins, its history and the folklore and myths surrounding it.
June's recent CD Rosa Mundi has provided the music, from standards such as Roses in Picardy through to traditional English folk songs.
The programme is a celebration of one of our most beautiful flowers, giving a glimpse into its history, its poetry … and even its pests.
Genevieve Tudor, who produced the programme, was ably assisted by Michael Marriot, who works with champion Shropshire Rose grower, David Austin.

As those of you that have been kind enough to listen to us on Sunday Folk will know, BBC Radio Shropshire can be heard on line from their web site.
The time - 6:30 PM - is BST, or GMT + 1 hour.

And very good it is too. I shall certainly listen again. A mixture of June's incredible velvet voice with some entertaining readings and quotes from the others. Poetry, trivia and sound advice, too. It really ought to be on Radio 4!
