Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dylan: God is Dead From: Little Hawk Date: 25 Apr 02 - 06:56 PM Bob Dylan has never made such an assertion (that God is dead), but he did comment in an interview a long time ago that when he saw a headline questioning "Is God Dead?" on a major publication, that it was a clear signal to him that society was lapsing into decadence...or something worse. He did not regard it as a statement indicating anything but abysmal ignorance. Which interview, and where you can find it, I do not know. It was prior to his "Christian" period, that's all I remember. - LH |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dylan: God is Dead From: The Pooka Date: 25 Apr 02 - 07:46 PM Guest - welllll (dubiously), here's a link to lyrics of a song called "Dead Man, Dead Man" from what I gather *was* Dylan's "Christian" period. It doesn't contain phrase "God is dead" & that isn't its message --- but MAYBE (?) it's what you're thinking of or recalling?? Click here |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dylan: God is Dead From: okthen Date: 26 Apr 02 - 05:30 AM The phrase is usually associated with Nietzsche and many University toilet walls will inform you........ "God is dead - Niatzsche" followed by, "Nietzsche is dead _ god" |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dylan: God is Dead From: Mrrzy Date: 26 Apr 02 - 09:45 AM (slight creep) wasn't it Voltaire who said that if God had not existed, it would have been necessary to invent Him? I know it was Nietzsche who then said Yes, but if Voltaire (or whoever it was) hadn't existed it would NOT have been necessary to invent HIM! And what about those signs signed "God" by the roads? |
