Subject: RE: Tune Req: Name this waltz From: Barbara Shaw Date: 28 Apr 02 - 08:35 AM Can someone put this in midi format so more of us can take a listen and maybe a guess? |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Name this waltz From: Jeri Date: 28 Apr 02 - 09:00 AM Clicky here for a MIDI Opinion: it sounds like the tune for a song/ballad. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Name this waltz From: Sorcha Date: 28 Apr 02 - 11:32 AM I agree, Jeri. The first thing I thought when I heard it was "Child"....... |
|
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Name this waltz From: Jeri Date: 28 Apr 02 - 02:19 PM Course, it makes a pretty cool harmony to "In the Pines." There's a bit of dissonance, but it sounds sort of neat. Click |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Name this waltz From: Desert Dancer Date: 28 Apr 02 - 10:02 PM It was played as a waltz during the Saturday afternoon waltz session at Neffa last weekend... it's the real thing! ~ Becky |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Name this waltz From: Jeri Date: 29 Apr 02 - 07:06 PM Becky, do you know who played it? Maybe somebody would know how to get in touch and ask them. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Name this waltz From: Desert Dancer Date: 30 Apr 02 - 02:23 AM O.k., true confessions, I hadn't yet pursued the proper channels, like the Neffa program book, or the local band that I suspect plays it... but, I'm cleaning up my act and have started pursuing both channels. For those waiting in suspenders for the answer to my question (that's you, Kernow John), here's, perhaps, the beginning of the answer -- the band was "Larry Unger & Friends". I shoulda known. That guy can write weird and/or wonderful waltzes! There are some samples from his waltz album at efolkmusic.com. Check out "Thirty Two" if you've ever asked, how do you play a waltz on the (five-string) banjo? (More on Larry Unger. Unfortunately, my mystery waltz is not one of those with samples at that web site. Still don't have the definitive answer, but I'll let you know when I do. 'Course, if anyone's got the "Curvy Road to Corinth" or "Reckless Reel" books, you could check 'em for me... ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Name this waltz From: Desert Dancer Date: 03 May 02 - 05:50 PM It is from the ever-prolific composer and player Larry Unger: a 1999 composition called, Happy Waltz. As xoon as I can get a clean copy from the local lads, I'll post the abc so you can have the right and full tune running thru your head, Kernow John! (My friend sent a blurry digital camera shot with the bottom of the page cut off!) ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Name this waltz From: Desert Dancer Date: 10 May 02 - 01:32 AM Here it is. Apparently it may have been renamed. Larry and the Reckless Ramblers will be at May Madness in Prescott, AZ in another week, so I'll double check it with him there. Subject: RE: Tune Req: Name this waltz From: Desert Dancer Date: 20 May 02 - 03:47 PM Back from a great dance weekend (May Madness in Prescott, Arizona) with the Reckless Ramblers: Larry Unger on guitar and banjo, Nat Hewitt on fiddle and guitar, Sam Bartlett on mandolin and tenor banjo, and Ginny Snowe on bass. Doubly confirmed that Larry wrote the waltz. It's been renamed "Cumberland," and appears on the new Reckless Ramblers cd, Lowdown Hoedown. I bought that cd, the waltz cd, and Uncle Gizmo, 'cept that was between dances, and when I ran off to join my partner in the line I left the cds on the stage! I guess I'll have to send off some shipping money and be patient. :-( ~ Becky in Tucson footsore, but happy |
