Subject: new home, Kat's From: bet Date: 28 Apr 02 - 08:17 PM Here's an up-date of kat's and Roger's new home. I just returned from helping them get their first load unloaded and into their house. Rog did a good job of picking out a house for them. Kat will need to put some things in order but it will make a good home for them. Kat says she will not be posting until late tomorrow afternoon. The e-mail guy will be there around 2. Kat and I decided that it was just as will that they couldn't get all the things that were in storage into the small truck, it probably would have been over-whelming, but thanks for all the GREAT dances you all did. Jerusha will bring the rest down in a week or two. All the animals were starting to come out of hiding and were exploring. They'll all be fine, both people and animals. I'm sure she will fill you in more tomorrow on some of the finer points. bet |

Subject: RE: BS: new home, Kat's From: JenEllen Date: 29 Apr 02 - 11:47 AM Got my virtual tour via 'kat-call' last night. It really sounds lovely. Not a ready-made vision, but one of those that you'll get to build to suit (those are always the best--imnsho) Thankfully, the purple cabinets aren't too purple, and the neighbors let their poor cats in at night! *bg* It's a good place to start again. Best of luck with the rest of the move. Do you think you'll have everything cleared out of my bedroom by summer? Oh well, just so long as it's not blocking the sunny east-facing windows....and I'll bring the tent just in case.... ~J |

Subject: RE: BS: new home, Kat's From: katlaughing Date: 29 Apr 02 - 04:34 PM Well, it really feels like "home" now that you lot are back in it! Yea!! I am once again *connected*! (Had to get a new email addy, even though it was just a transfer. They said we would have even if we'd just moved across the street!) Thanks to you all so very, very much, happy yaks and all. Without the support and encouragement of our Mudcat friends, this could not have happened. AND, the BEST BIG SISTER in the whole wide world went above and beyond in helping, too. SHE is GRRRREEEEEAAATT! Thanks, bet! One thing I lied about...it's a "globe willow" in the backyard, not a weeping willow, and it is a globe which was let to go *free range* so it doesn't even look like a globe which is fine with me. I have a cottonwood and a couple of poplars out front, the rosebushes have buds on them, the grass in front isn't too bad looking and there's a little patch of it on the side, too. The backyard is very large and full of dirt.:-) Lots of potential...I am really glad we didn't get the big truck as it would have bowled us over, as bet mentioned, if we'd try to move it all in at once. This will give me a little bit of time to throw it in some likely directions ala Big Mick and make room for the rest. Jen...you can have the East facing windows, along with the computer, library and catroom...I'll even put the special rocking chair in here, the old red velvet Victorian...:-) Everybody wanna bring a paintbrush? We can have a Huck Finn party painting the picket fence and then some! I have slept better than I have in years, the past two nights, and I am grateful to overflowing. Esp. that the critters made the move okay. Miccadarlin'...Ms. Lovee is a princess, no fuss, she went in her kennel first thing in the morning, on her own, when we started loading the truck and stayed there until we got here and brought her in. Never complained or anything. I think she, and the others once they knew it was going to be a long haul, just went into "Zen" mode...left their little fur coats behind and went walkabout in another realm...all we had to do was convince them it was over and safe to reconnect.*bg* More later. It is hot and we've not got the water hooked up to the swamp cooler, yet, so I'm going into the other room where it is cooler. Thank you, thank you, thank you, everyone!!! I love you, kat |

Can't wait to hear you on the land line (you didn't leave my phone number at the old house, did you?) . . . Remember to take it slow and easy, and don't overdo it. Now, go outside early tomorrow morning, sans shoes of course, plant your tootsies in that little patch of grass in the yard, click your heels together and repeat three times -- 'There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home'. You and Rog have finally found your 'Oz', and I wish you many days of happiness therein! Luv ya, Áine |

Okay, to settle the debate about the "poi-pull" kitchen cupboards, just click here, choose Kat &Rog's house, and see for yerself...looks "periwinkle blue" to me and I can live with them, for awhile at least!*bg* There're a couple of other photos as well. Subject: RE: BS: new home, Kat's From: Áine Date: 30 Apr 02 - 05:13 PM Great pics, mehitabel!! It just looks purrfect for you and my darlin' Ringtail-tooter ;-) As for the cabinets, if you're not going to stencil them or use a stubble glaze, I think a creamy warm yellow would look nice. And those 60's light fixtures -- babe, hie thee to Ebay and sell the suckers! Please call soon - I'm wilting without word from you, wonder woman . . . Keep taking things slow and easy darlin', Áine |
Subject: RE: BS: new home, Kat's From: katlaughing Date: 30 Apr 02 - 05:20 PM Funny you should say that about stenciling...I've got a little "Tree of Hearts" I did in watercolours for my sis and Night Owl thinks it would be really pretty on the cupboards. I am not too keen on yellow and white, so...will probably keep the periwinkle for awhile. And, you are right on target with those light fixtures! That was exactly my thought. Someone who wants to really be retro should really snap them up...they are a hoot! I am going slow...lined 3 cupboards and quit to make a bunch of phone calls...have on an oldies station while I *thread*...cellphone is charging, but the free rates don't start until after 8p my time, so...I'll try tonight, if I am not asleep.:-) We've got lots to gaggle about, awchee... luvyamehitabel |

MMario, thanks! "Colonial blue" is exactly the colour name I was looking for. I loved all of the old paint colours back in New England and it does have that quality to it. Now, I'll add some chaste windowboxes, a brick chimney and real shutters and tell folks I am recreating a squished "saltbox" from New England, blue paint and all. Thanks also for your comments about the cats. I am sure Rog would say you're welcome to them, BUT ya can't have 'em!**BG** I have posted a few more cat pix just for you, three of the Divine Ms. Lovee, herself and one of Trystan Horribilus looking as though he is in heaven hugging Kazell's arse.:-) So, garg...last I knew there were no gargoyles in CO, only California...bit of a stretch for being neighbours. Subject: RE: BS: new home, Kat's From: Lonesome EJ Date: 06 May 02 - 08:17 PM OK! It worked that time, and here are my marvy decorating suggestions....first, get rid of some of those damn cats. I've told you before you have too many, but you just don't listen. Keep Trystan, and take the rest on an outing to the mountains. Release them there to forage and become one with nature. Now, paint a mural of John Wesley Powell descending the Colorado River across those purple cabinets. Harvest the picket fence for firewood, or else use it to create a rustic ambiance in the living room. The yard, obviously, needs some ornamentation. Being a Pagan, you probably wouldn't cotton to the Mary-in-a-Bathtub Garden Shrine, and I guess Lawn Jockies and Reflective Globes are more Kentucky-style, and are perhaps out of place in *****, Colorado. However, its hard to go wrong with pink flamingoes and giant sheet-metal Kokopellis that say "Hi! We're the new neighbors from Wyoming! C'mon over and have some Chugwater Chili!" |

I judge a house by the size of it's kitchen, and it looks like your kitchen's at least twice as large as mine. Very good choice. I would be thrilled with a larger kitchen even if it had fluorescent green cabinets! I know I've been offline and out of touch for a while, and haven't kept up on things. But welcome back to Colorado. Love ya both, BlueJay |

A woman is at her desk with her cat sitting in the box marked "In." She is saying to the cat, "I'll get to you A. S. A. P." Glad you folks are en route to getting settled in your new digs. Blessings on your new home. Genie [Susan, you little rapscallion upstart scofflaw rabblerouser, you! -- And they say we P.K.s are bad! LOL! ... Album of one photo, just for you is HERE. I think the whoel Getaway crew should just travel on to here afterwards...we'll make a real party of it! Don, thank you...wish the ceilings were higher, but the floors are lower, for sure...one slopes a bit, too. Ah...olde house syndrome, eh? luvyakat |
Subject: RE: BS: new home, Kat's From: katlaughing Date: 25 Mar 04 - 07:20 PM Just a couple of years later, or coming onto the end of our second year and Daughter Dear, Rue, has given me a great early b-day present! She has stripped the living room of yucky carpet and found BEAUTIFUL hardwoood flooring underneath!! She also stripped the hallway which is another story...some kind of salmon-coloured-streaked kind of melamine for floors ala 1950's! Better than the carpet, but it WILL get changed, too! The wood floor is gorgeous!! Just thought I'd share that with ya'll.:-) kat |
Subject: RE: BS: new home, Kat's (Update) From: Amos Date: 25 Mar 04 - 07:26 PM You can get wood flooring that will make that hallway look better than new, and is fairly easy to install yourself. Check it out at your local Home Dept -- it will really beat that melamine, I promise! A |
Subject: RE: BS: new home, Kat's (Update) From: Bobert Date: 25 Mar 04 - 07:36 PM Time to rent a floor sander....... .... but don't take it down too far, especially if it has some character scratches and flaws... Congrates on the find, kat. Bobert |
Subject: RE: BS: new home, Kat's (Update) From: Áine Date: 25 Mar 04 - 07:48 PM Way to go, Rue!! Yeehaw on the wood floors, darlin'! But just remember that when that grandson starts gettin' louder, you'll hear it ring from floor to ceiling (HEHEHEHE)... And I second the vote for the Home Depot DIY floor -- if she can rip one up, she can lay one down (uh, I meant that in a nice way, really)... Big hogs and snugs to the lot of ya, Áine |
Subject: RE: BS: new home, Kat's (Update) From: katlaughing Date: 25 Mar 04 - 09:36 PM Haha, Aacute&ine,..she sure can, ya know! She's already done one kitchen floor for me in WY. Oh, and whadayamean when he gets louder?! We've already noticed the echo!! Bobert, if we do any sanding it will very light. This floor has been covered up for a loooong time. Luckily, I still have the super-dooper Electrolux floor-buffer we bought years ago. It's going to do a nice job once we've sanded a bit. We have been looking at the DYI, thanks, all. |
Subject: RE: BS: new home, Kat's (Update) From: katlaughing Date: 14 Feb 12 - 10:12 PM A posting by SRS in the declutter thread reminded me, it will be ten years this spring since we bought our house, so I went looking for this thread to see if I could find the exact day. Voila! I love Mudcat...it's like a diary of sharing. Found and old PM..it was 12 April to be exact.:-) |
