Subject: FT New common prefix From: Pied Piper Date: 30 Apr 02 - 06:57 AM I've been enjoying some great food related threads recently (Scrapple who'd have thought it?). Can I suggest we invoke a new FT prefix to identify foody items. I have yet to come up with suitably obscene words for it to abreviate, but I think their are plenty of possibilities. This would help me (and a lot of others I suspect) zoom in on these fascinating threads. All the best PP. PS is Scrapple available in the UK? |

Subject: RE: FT New common prefix From: GUEST,Jeff Date: 30 Apr 02 - 07:09 AM No. Just because you like food threads is not a reason to have a new prefix. The number of food threads is quite small. Sould we have specific prefixes for threads about computers, banjos, gardening, moving house, seagull guitars, feeling down, etc, etc? There are already enough prefixes. The 'Super Search' works pretty well and should allow you to easily enough. Otherwise have a look at one of the very many 'foodie' discussion sites and newsgroups. Jeff |

Subject: RE: FT New common prefix From: catspaw49 Date: 30 Apr 02 - 07:17 AM The biggest help would be to label the BS threads as BS. BS includes any category not related to music. This will help those who don't wish to be bothered with the chitchat to easily filter out threads that are just pure conversation. You can label a thread "BS-FT Bagels" or whatever, but the important prefix is BS as there is already a way to filter the BS prefixed threads out if the music only folks are inclined to use it. Subject: BS -- RE: FT New common prefix From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 30 Apr 02 - 07:35 AM As with this BS thread.
I'm agin too many prefixes too. But I think it's a good innovation now we have OBIT as an option. "BS - So-and-so is dead" seemed a bit off sometimes, and so would "BS - Obit - So-and-so is dead" (More times than not there's a musical connection anyway, but not always.)

Subject: RE: FT New common prefix From: wysiwyg Date: 30 Apr 02 - 11:27 AM If you use BS and anything with it, please use: BS: not BS or BS- The filter needs the colon, otherwise you would be filtering out things like GIBSON, CLUBS.... I agree we do not need a FT prefix, tho it's no harm suggesting it. The food discussions over at the Annexe actually are preferable, IMO. ~Susan |
