Subject: Junebug XL MudGathering PA June 6-10-02 From: wysiwyg Date: 06 May 02 - 03:44 PM Well, Hardi will be away for half of this one, but then that means it won't make him nuts to do it again. In fact he said what would make him nuts would be missing so much of it! *G*
An hour north of Williamsport PA and an hour south of Elmira NY. See TRAVEL TIMES, below. NEW POLICIES If you are planning on coming, get my snail mail address and send me one of your picks, a piece of sheet music, or some other token of your musicianship. These constitute your "registration" confirmation and take the place of a guest book for people to sign.... you see, after one of these we invariably find picks left lying around. I want one of your favorite picks to be here waiting for you, whenever you come visit us! And if you don't know you'll be coming till the last minute—be sure to bring a spare pick for your admission fee! I am also going to ask each participant to make a token donation to Mudcat. Basically, you will have to "pay" to leave, or we will disable your vehicle and KEEP you! Sliding scale, $1-20, you decide what makes sense. IN-HOUSE ACCOMMODATIONS: In-house accommodations include two guest bedrooms and a "landing" room that will sleep three each, in beds varying from real to inflatable. There's floor space (cat-lovers only) and couch-recliner space downstairs as well. Also, the addition on the back of the house has two large rooms, very snug, and the upstairs room is non-allergenic. This will make a dorm room upstairs to sleep at least 8, plus a dorm/second jam room downstairs. Sleeping space will be assigned based on who signs up to come, and what their needs may be. (TALK to me.) I will need to know when you plan to arrive and depart. CAMPING Sleeping in your van is excellent here. One visitor brings an electric heater to run off an extension cord from the barn. Tenting in the farmyard is fine, if chilly, but beware black bears and bobcats, and so NO FOOD out there. Our pop-up camper sleeps several, depending how friendly they are! I have a large (double 9 x 13) screen room we can put up, as well as the two porches and yard for picking. FOOD & BEVERAGE: Dinner Thursday is on us, for people signing up to come early and help get ready for Friday arrivals. This time I am looking for a volunteer to be responsible for crockpot-type dinner (1 meat and 1 vegetarian) to be on hand awaiting Friday arrivals. I'll do casserole breakfasts Saturday and Sunday, and y'all can bring the rest. There is a second fridge for beer and bev, so fill it up. Bagged ice is appreciated as well. There is a recycling area in need of a volunteer to keep it policed and sorted. EXTENDED VISITS: This does not have to be just a weekend thing. If you can come earlier or stay later, that's great. You're on the crew. OTHER AMENITIES Bring your swimsuit or spare shorts; there is a sitting pool I will probably have up by the time the date rolls around. Bring walk/hike shoes; we live at the foot of some nice hills for leg-stretching. If you bike, bring it; Hardi knows where to go and loves to bike. Frisbees, archery, and so forth? Sure, why not? WISH LIST: Facilities for this and upcoming gatherings here would be greatly improved if you are interested in getting rid of any of the following: Metal-frame hollywood bed frames Futon frame Pillows! Always pillows! Clean room-size rugs, any old weird colors you are tired of! VARIOUS DETAILS ABOUT OUR PLACE MAP & DRIVING DIRECTIONS to the general area; check with me for close directions ESTIMATED TRAVEL TIMES ABOUT OUR AREA WEATHER REALITIES IF YOU PLAN ON TENTING HERE REMINDER: Saturday night-- Hardi and I leave about 5 PM to set up and do the Saturday night service at church, and someone who knows the place stays behind to host on our behalf. At previous Gatherings, several Mudcatters have joined us and we had a great time. See a big green letter C wrapping around a white space. See the lower edge of the C, where the C ends.... it looks like an arrow? It's pointing to my house. We are on the right top tip of that arrow. Welcome, Martin! ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Junebug XL MudGathering PA June 6-10-02 From: wysiwyg Date: 23 May 02 - 04:16 PM Hesp, are you learning the tune to sing? (hope hope) Teach it to us! And I do have a 12' diameter sitting pool, and if I get it set up and the water warms up in time, we can paddle to the other side.... Shady screen room over it... or moonlight.... someone bringing mint juleps? SO civilized. ~Susan

Subject: RE: Junebug XL MudGathering PA June 6-10-02 From: hesperis Date: 24 May 02 - 01:07 AM Learning the tune? God, no, I'm learning the words...! I'm not usually singing this one, but the tune is burned in my brain. I'm usually to busy calling out the steps to sing it. "Step, point. Step, point. Step, point. Step, point. Turn, two, three, four..." |
Subject: RE: Junebug XL MudGathering PA June 6-10-02 From: wysiwyg Date: 24 May 02 - 01:23 AM OK, you can whistle it to me to teach me the tune and I'll sing it. Never heard it. Look out for the groundhog holes, now. ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Junebug XL MudGathering PA June 6-10-02 From: wysiwyg Date: 28 May 02 - 06:11 PM Good question, Hess. Normally I would be spending time this week trying to nail that down, because it's rare to get advance confirmation from folks. But I am so glad that you are coming to stay with us, I am going to be focusing my efforts now on getting your space ready, so you can rest well and get back on your healing program. So I am counting on people who are coming to let me know. ~Susan

Subject: RE: Junebug XL MudGathering PA June 6-10-02 From: wysiwyg Date: 07 Jun 02 - 09:25 PM Well, it's funny how things work out. I never thought a June date would work, festival season being in full swing, but I was willing to go for it since a number of you asked for it when you could not make the May Gathering date work. But then I got so busy getting ready for hesperis to move in, I didn't do my usual last round of messaging to get people out of the woodwork, locals or Mudcatters.... So by midweek it was clear that there were no definite all-weekend attendees, although I did have a number of people who thought they might drop in briefly to see what was happening. I suggested they reschedule... and got busy working instead on beefing up the local folk scene... and thinking about doing the next Gathering in cold weather, all-indoors, and how the guest rooms I have been making could expand past my planned use in ther fall as hunters' bed & breakfast rooms for buck season... Hm, I thought, I'll need more beds for a winter Gathering.... more beds.... hm, where will THEY come from.... So then Hess' plans changed at the last minute and she's not here and the big room I was saving for her is empty and is looking again like a candidate for being a MudDorm... So I was home and quite available today when a friend called in need of a little bit of a rescue, who has to move in 10 days and has LOTS of beds to get rid of in a hurry as her new digs will surely be very tiny.... Life is funny, innit? We are eventually going to have the first snowed-in Mudcat Gathering! ~Susan |
