Subject: RE: Help: stop murder, we can do it From: ddw Date: 08 May 02 - 10:46 PM That's optimism! People have been killing each other for millennia, and we're just gonna get 'em to stop if we just try hard enough. Get real, people.... cheers, david |

Subject: RE: Help: stop murder, we can do it From: CarolC Date: 08 May 02 - 10:57 PM We can write to the politicians and the news organizations. If enough people speak up, I think they'll listen. |

Subject: RE: Help: stop murder, we can do it From: CarolC Date: 08 May 02 - 10:58 PM ddw, maybe you should check out the "Who are the terrorists" thread. It's got some useful stuff on it. |

Subject: RE: Help: stop murder, we can do it From: Little Hawk Date: 09 May 02 - 12:11 AM Well, my way of reducing violence in the world is not being violent myself. So far it has worked quite well. Not that that has much to do with the Middle East crisis, but it's my small contribution to world peace. To imagine that we can stop all murder is naive, but to imagine we can reduce it is not. As far as the Middle East goes, yes, write to your politicians, by all means...but I think their minds are already made up, and the script has already been written. The next big episode will probably be in Iraq, once the present one winds one and declines in popularity and media saleability. You know, one week it's "Scorpion King"...the next it's "Spiderman"... The BIG hits are chosen before they even leave the can, folks. - LH |

Subject: RE: Help: stop murder, we can do it From: GUEST Date: 09 May 02 - 01:50 AM Hmmmm, nice thought. But how do you attempt to solve the problem? |
|
Subject: RE: Help: stop murder, we can do it From: Bert Date: 09 May 02 - 03:51 AM Well Happiness, those of us that think we can do it seem to be in a minority. But keep plugging away ol' buddy 'cos our numbers are growing. I started this thread a few days ago and despite the naysayers, it's still going in it's third iteration now. We just need more people like you in the world. Love you guy (or gal) whoever you are. Bert. |

Subject: RE: Help: stop murder, we can do it From: Grab Date: 09 May 02 - 07:48 AM I think that would be "terrorist", not "tourist", Happiness... Your solution is what, BTW? We all just say "We don't think you should be doing that, so play nicely now"? Graham. |

Subject: RE: Help: stop murder, we can do it From: CarolC Date: 09 May 02 - 08:08 AM I just spent all night sending e-mails to members of congress here in the US, President Bush, VP Cheney, Laura Bush (for the sake of the children), Colin Powell, and all of the major media outlets. I included URLs for the following sites... http://www.cactus48.com/truth.html (Jews for Justice in the Middle East) http://www.marxists.de/middleast/ironwall/ironwall.htm (Jabotinsky) http://www.nimn.org/ (Not In My Name)
And I told them what I think should be done about it. I don't know if it's going to make any difference or not, but I figure it can't hurt. And you never know. Maybe it can make a difference. |

Subject: RE: Help: stop murder, we can do it From: Mooh Date: 09 May 02 - 08:26 AM I suppose it wouldn't be a pipe dream if we were tolerant of differences in race, creed, colour, politics, ta da, ta da, ta da...(etc)... In the meantime it's too much like "KILL THE EXTREMISTS NOW". Leaders of countries who (according to popular opinion, not mine) are also world leaders, like George Bush I suppose, are serial killers themselves. Pray for peace, but keep your head down. Mooh. |

Subject: RE: Help: stop murder, we can do it From: Mr Happy Date: 13 May 02 - 05:20 PM [naiively]i believe, and you may correct me mr/ms troll, that vested interests include: the armaments industries of the world powers the capitalists with interests in these other industrialists who stand to make a lotta bucks/££s etc by keeping these conflicts going i'm tougher now, so fire away with your best shots!! |

Subject: RE: Help: stop murder, we can do it From: Troll Date: 14 May 02 - 12:40 AM Happiness, the examples you cited don't want war. War ruins the market. What they want is for the pot to keep simmering but never boiling over. That way, the antagonists keep buying the latest in weapons systems so they can have the very latest in defense/offense. And the gunrunners supply the little guys like Hezbolla and Hamas. Like the Merc T-shirt says, "Killing People is my Business, and Business is Good!" troll BTW, I'm male |

Subject: RE: Help: stop murder, we can do it From: Mr Happy Date: 14 May 02 - 01:28 PM mr troll, i think we basically agree here in that these interested parties- [businesses, governments, criminals etc] are involved very cynically to as you say keep conflicts simmering. the world wars never end, they just move about- from time immemorial, can't ordinary people wake up and realise how they're being used? it's again another aspect of 'the money trick'
