Well, my way of reducing violence in the world is not being violent myself. So far it has worked quite well. Not that that has much to do with the Middle East crisis, but it's my small contribution to world peace.

To imagine that we can stop all murder is naive, but to imagine we can reduce it is not.

As far as the Middle East goes, yes, write to your politicians, by all means...but I think their minds are already made up, and the script has already been written.

The next big episode will probably be in Iraq, once the present one winds one and declines in popularity and media saleability.

You know, one week it's "Scorpion King"...the next it's "Spiderman"...

The BIG hits are chosen before they even leave the can, folks.

Well Happiness, those of us that think we can do it seem to be in a minority. But keep plugging away ol' buddy 'cos our numbers are growing.

I started this thread a few days ago and despite the naysayers, it's still going in it's third iteration now.

I just spent all night sending e-mails to members of congress here in the US, President Bush, VP Cheney, Laura Bush (for the sake of the children), Colin Powell, and all of the major media outlets.

I suppose it wouldn't be a pipe dream if we were tolerant of differences in race, creed, colour, politics, ta da, ta da, ta da...(etc)... In the meantime it's too much like "KILL THE EXTREMISTS NOW". Leaders of countries who (according to popular opinion, not mine) are also world leaders, like George Bush I suppose, are serial killers themselves.

the armaments industries of the world powers

the capitalists with interests in these

other industrialists who stand to make a lotta bucks/££s etc by keeping these conflicts going

Happiness, the examples you cited don't want war. War ruins the market. What they want is for the pot to keep simmering but never boiling over. That way, the antagonists keep buying the latest in weapons systems so they can have the very latest in defense/offense.
And the gunrunners supply the little guys like Hezbolla and Hamas.
Like the Merc T-shirt says, "Killing People is my Business, and Business is Good!"

i think we basically agree here in that these interested parties- [businesses, governments, criminals etc] are involved very cynically to as you say keep conflicts simmering.

the world wars never end, they just move about- from time immemorial, can't ordinary people wake up and realise how they're being used?

it's again another aspect of 'the money trick'
