Along with other re-vamps I have added an FAQ page on my website and thought foreign surfers might cope well with addresses, telephone numbers and dates but not my abbreviations and explanations.

Mr Red's FAQ's

It might even need translating into English! Puns and jokey styles don't translate well. I have no translations as of the time of writing.
Anyway if there are any polyglots out there who understand the concept of pub sessions/FC's and can do a short interpret (or literal translation) I would be grateful.
All languages considered, though my principle targets will be 1) the nearer countries to the UK eg French, Danish, Dutch, German, Castillian, Norwegen etc 2) the cultural minorities of Europe who come over to demonstrate their folklore eg Catalan, Breton, Basque, Flemish, Friesland, 3) ethnic groups living in the UK, eg Irdu, Bangladeshi, Glasga, Scouse.
As luck would have it I have access to a class of students learning English (of several less appropriate origins) who may help but they are not folkies and are mostly struggling with English.
with other alphabets I intend using .gif files.
I am aware of Babelfish but have not heard good reports nor visited.

Pretty impressive. You ought to have Welsh in as one of the languages really - I mean your territory is cross border.

Keeping it up to date is going to be a bugger I'd imagine - I'm terrible on that with my much more modest effort. But that's a great resource you've organised there.

I doubt Babelfish could cope with that FAQ - but it's not bad on some things. Click on "translate" at the bottom of every post of the Mudcat, and it takes you there. You could stick a link to it on your site to be going on with.

Yea, Welsh is the easy one, Taplas and the folks at Llantrisant FC would probably oblige. At a pinch I could get one in Ladino (obscure Iberian migrating to Turkey) but there are only 60,000 speakers in the world and most live around the world. I was hoping Francophones and Tuetonicglots would be fairly abundant.

Any offers folks?

Romantsch (various names and spellings) is spoken by a small minority of Swiss (all of whom are also competent in German and most also in other languages) in a couple valleys (particularly the Engadin) in the far SE part of the land. It is a form of the language called Rhaeto-Romanic, which also has speakers (a much larger number, though with less official support) in NE Italy (and possibly also some in Austria or Slovenia, not sure about that).

I can probably come up with a reasonable Esperanto version for you.

Desperanto would be fine. Not sure how many 'Rantophones there are in the world but if we are covering the ground It would be a good place to tread!

I can translate into Latin. You won't find an audience for it, though, except among dusty old pedantic types. However, if you'd like to know how to sling an insult in Latin, or write an inscrutably academic letter, or make up a suitably impressive family motto, feel free to PM me. Deda, I'd be interested in seeing the Latin even if there aren't enough speakers to make it Mr. Red's best bet for reaching foreigners. I used to read Latinitas magazine a lot, back in the Apollo moonshot era, it was fun seeing how one says "Lunar Landing Module" and the like in the language of Caesar and Augustine. Neither of whom, of course, would have known what we were jabbering about. Mr. Red's text would be equally challenging, I fear. Follow the link in the inaugural post to see what it is he wants translated.
