Just thought I'd ask, because that is what this forum is looks like.

Inspirational, testimonial, patriotic, obituaries, love gone wrong vignettes.

LOL!! The only thing missing is the advertisements from big drug companies and the feminine products manufacturers, huh??

Tell ya what -- if you have a clear and compelling vision of the kind of articulate and intelligent traffic that should characterize this forum, how's about you start generating a lot of that? Or is carping a specialty of yours? You'd make a much bigger impact leading by example than coming up with criticisms that are content-free.

Well, seing as someone has replied... at times it seems that way to me but...

Apart from the filtering that I keep mentioning that should help, currently:

John in Brisbane is working on a version of the dt with quality sheet music.

There is the dtStudy proposal just starting which should give those who wish to be a bit more academic about music an oppertunity.

On the community and music side, as far as I understand it, Amos is going well with the CD project...

LOL too! We even have the occasional "Drama in Real Life"! And don't forget the recipe section, and the humor threads... what would that be, "Life in These United States and This United Kingdom and..."?

Hmmm... I just read kendall's post on the Could I Be Oldest Mucatter [sic] thread and now I'm thinking that we have one of those "I Am Joe's Body Part" sections that Reader's Digest used to run – in this case, "I Am Joe's Long Liver"!

I'll have you know, Readers Digest also has a trifling music department--launched 43 years ago. I hope we don't have to wait that long for the DT and forum updates, don't you?

They even carry folk music, so look out Camsco!

There's been quite a hefty discussion of various aspects of music theory going on over the past week or two, along with several other pretty good discussions. If you don't like the "inspirational, testimonial, patriotic, obituaries, love gone wrong vignettes" and the various joke pages, I would think that an enterprising person might be able to find something of interest. Depending, of course, on what your interests are.

Well, it's true that Reader's Digest is the publisher of the long-sought-after "Peter Paul and Mary Box Set." It's the only source for CD recordings of the members of the trio from the time when they were not a trio...
But yeah, I don't like the silliness and banality of a lot of our non-music stuff.
I also don't like the trolling and flames, most of which is perpetrated by anonymous guests.
I guess I have to live with it. We still have some terrific music discussions, and that makes it all worthwhile. If you don't like the BS, bookmark this BS Filter:

And if you've already read the current Digest, we have a copy of "Just Folks" by Edward A. Guest. I just love his poetry, don't you?

Well, just make yourself at home. You're always welcome to drop in.

I've been itching to start some smart-ass threads, but the world got serious a while back and it just hasn't seemed the thing to do.

Plus, my "axis of evil" buddies in Orillia seem to have scattered to the four winds and I can't find anyone else around here who enjoys tipping cows.

Its not as good as Readers Digest. You get lttlejokes at the bottom of pages in that,or improving sentiments, and we just get "post top forum home translate"

greg, I recommend the translate button for some good laughs.

For instance, here's your message translated into Spanish...

Su tan bueno como el resumen de los lectores. Usted consigue lttlejokes en el fondo de páginas en eso, o mejorando sentimientos, y apenas conseguimos el "poste que el hogar superior del foro traduce"

And translated back again into English...

Its not ace good ace Readers Digest. You get lttlejokes AT the bottom of pages in that, or improving sentiments, and we just get "post top forum home translate"

And here is a link to the Virtual Toilet Paper Museum, which is even less fitted for the purpose.

Not so, in principle anyway. There are some bus rides where the bus itself, the fellow passengers and the journey itself all combine to make it the best type of travelling there is. P>

I'll have to take your word for it, McGrath. I've never been on one of those. Although I do have a long-standing fantasy of converting an old bus into a sort of motor home and traveling around in it.

But mostly I like traveling in trains.

Well, they're kind of cramped, the air's not very good in them, and they have to stop about every mile and a half or so. Other than that, they're just great!

Is this for your trip to Staunton?

I haven't been on one in years, Greg, but I much prefer the trains, when available. On a train, one can get up and wander around to the snack/lounge car, have nice meals in the dining car, view the scenery from the Vistadomes (all glass all the way round), and even get a sleeping compartment, if one wants to spend the money; also there are more bathroom facilities.

The trains back East seemed a bit mroe cramped and old, as in seedy, to me than the ones we have out West, but I still love trains.

Buses are more cramped, only one bathroom, you eat when and where they stop, sleep in the same seat no matter, etc. I had a lot of fun on them as a kid, but I think it's changed a lot since then. Buses are less expensive, though.

If you are coming from out of the country, there used to be a special "rail pass" that one could get for a set fee and ride the train whenever and wherever available, without paying any more.

Hope this helps,

kat

The thing I like about buses is people talk to each other, the way they don't in trains. And not just to complain about the bus being late again. Ask directions how to get there, and as like as not you spark off a general discussion about what's the best way to get there.

Thats only because you are not used to human interaction, guest.

If ya got out of your mom's basement every once in a while and get some sun, fresh air, and a life, you wouldn't be so afraid of talking to people.

Some people's children.

Speaking of hamsters, it's always wise to have one riding shotgun when you have to drive through dangerous inner-city ghetto areas. I recommend a trained attack hamster for anyone who does this on a regular basis.

Well that's a relief. It's good to know that Orillia is still being looked after by some very fine people (Johnny Death included ;-)

Still, it does seem like an era has passed. Ah well. Onward and upward, eh?
