The interesting thing about Rancho Santa Fe is that you wouldn't guess it upon just driving through. The homes are mostly set back and the vegetation along the winding road is dense. Once in awhile you glimpse part of a home, but from the road it isn't as ostentatious as you might expect.

As for the tragedy of Heaven's Gate, that could probably have happened in the South Bronx. Wealth does not have a corner in stupidity.

Hey, #5 on the list is Belle Meade, right here in Nashville. It is a pretty ostentatious neighborhood.

RSF, as Ebbie says, is ostentatious in its own way, with the wealth kinda hidden behind long driveways, and the few roads wending through it are quire lovely. But hang out in the cente rof town for a while and you got a fair glimpse of the super-tony-articiality of the residents; like any community there are good ones and bad ones, but boy, the superficiality of the bad ones is really palpable!

But it would be a lovely place to live, if you had 4-5 Mill to spend.

Well, that's disgusting about poor ol' Douglas County, CO!

If all of its residents stayed there year round to be counted and it didn't get lumped in with Westerly, I'd of thought Watch Hill, RI would've ranked up there, but, alas, it's just full of multi-million dollar summer "cottages," ala the Aspen set. Phaw! Some beautiful mansions, though!

Hi kat. Speaking of 'multi million dollar summer cottages', we've got a bunch of them right below us near the lake. Our address is "Fallingbrook and Kingston rd." which implies that we're part of a VERY upscale 'old money' neighbourhood......but the catch is that all the houses at the top of the hill are little brick and stone bungalows (us) and as you look down into the valley you see the millionaires' roofs.

Whenever it rains....it's THEIR basements that get flooded.

Whenever there's a break-in.....it's down the hill (car thieves just seem to prefer those Mercedes things to our Ford Escort)

....and best of all...in the morning rush hour it takes them half an hour just to be able to come up the hill and make a left or right turn onto the main drag.

It IS nice to wander down to their 'hoods' though. They have beautiful homes and nice dogs (I leave the Escort in the driveway, so they don't know we're 'tourists')

Cheers

Rick

Yeah, like Bill D pointed out, 4 of the wealthiest counties in the US are in the Washinton, D.C. area. One of the 4 is Loudoun County where I own commercail propery and my business, I would like to say that that some of that wealth has fallen on me but I'm just a blue collar small businessman. What I have noticed is that all these folks who have come in here with all their money are some of the most miserable people I've ever seen. Their lives have been reduced to a blur. Sure, they have the Lexus's and the million dollar houuses but they are all "fu*king peasants as far as I can see". Sad...

Irony, Rick - around here all the good houses are at the tops of the hills.
