Subject: Old-Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes From: GUEST Date: 12 Jun 02 - 06:09 PM By Jeff Todd Titon. Purported to have over 150 tunes transcribed, and a discography of Kentucky fiddlers? Has anyone read this book, and if so, can they give us a review of it? |

Subject: RE: Old-Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes From: GUEST Date: 12 Jun 02 - 07:10 PM Right, that's the one! Thanks for posting the links Masato. Has anyone got the book? At $45.00 with the CD? Am I right about that? It seems like a very good value at that price, and I'm thinking it might make a wonderful Father's Day gift. |

Subject: RE: Old-Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes From: Stewie Date: 13 Jun 02 - 12:18 AM I have the book. It is mainly a resource for musicians. Not being a musician, but having a deep interest in oldtimey music, I purchased it for the intro (c 30pp) and the notes to the tunes - and for the CD. There are transcriptions of 170 tunes plus a few variants. The CD of 26 tunes is fine. There is also a section with potted biographies of Kentucky fiddlers with some excellent black and white photos. The bibliography (references to printed and recorded sources) is extensive. A wonderful resource for oldtimey fiddlers. --Stewie. |

Subject: RE: Old-Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes From: GUEST,Russ Date: 13 Jun 02 - 08:25 AM Highest recommendation. If you father does old time, it is a must have even if he isn't into KY fiddling. Wish the biographies had been longer. |
